Well, was "he" doing girl or boy pushups?

John Canzano called 56-0 on this game. He is going to be one smug SOB on Monday; which, I suppose, just makes it another Monday with that smug bastard.

I posted this in another thread, but it's relevant;

College football scores for this past weekend....Nine teams won their games by a combined score of 458-46. The average score of those nine games? 51-5. Worst margin of defeat? 72-0 (Oregon vs New Mexico).

2010-09-05 03:56:12 AM
And then there are teams like Florida...

Yep. The school probably got paid upwards of half a mil to be a punching bag for a day. Not that the embarrassed student athletes see any of that cash as that would corrupt the purity of their amateur status. Hurray for college football opening day cupcake-a-thon!

I love college football, and still don't know if players should be paid anything absurd, but a little relaxation on some rules would be nice.

Punish SCHOOLS more, punish PLAYERS less.

No, that's really not an interesting thing in the slightest, since your supposition is in the realm of an alternate dimension where it DID happen.

Actually, UNM doesn't need the cash. If they did it for the money they were just being greedy. The state and the Alumni keep the program fairly well funded. Hell, the damn New Mexico Bowl basically exists so UNM will always have a bowl game as long as they are bowl eligible.

Now New Mexico State... That program is freaking broke. They've been forced to take some serious mismatches over the years just to field a team. They didn't even have enough money last year to give the players snacks to keep their energy up during training camp. A group of local alumni wives donated stuff for the players. And UNM and her alumni have been doing everything they can to keep it that way.

This is why I just can't get in to college football.

Also, I can't respect any sport where Pete Carroll is considered a genius.

Dog Welder: Also, I can't respect any sport where Pete Carroll is considered a genius.

Well hes considered a cheater, not a genius.

You have to think of some of these games like preseason games, its to gauge how incoming players will do against live competition, even its a bad team you can still judge them. Its the teams still playing shiat teams with established starters that really bug me.

Having graduated from NMSU, I have to say that this was one of my favorite football games ever! Props to the Ducks mascot for doing all those push-ups; I would have wussed out after the fourth touchdown.

As much as players hate being beat, those crappy colleges sure do love the payday that it gets from playing a major college team.

I'm sure Louisiana Tech Ragin' Cajuns don't mind the slight payday they got from getting their asses kicked by My sub par SEC team.

Truthiness: In before the "running up the score" crowd gets ramped up because their mommy isn't nearby to heal their boo-boo.

It was 59-0 at halftime with the last two TDs coming on punt returns, and the starters were out before halftime. Not sure anyone could logically get away with that anyway.

I didn't see a single "boo hoo, running up the score" comment in this thread or on the Lobo message boards. Plenty of calls for coach Locksley's head though.

Two years ago the Lobos were in a bowl game under Coach Rocky Long. Last year, in coach Locksley's first season, the team went 1-11. Locksley also punched an assistant coach and had a sexual harassment complaint.

Locksley's supposedly an excellent recruiter. Maybe he should go recruit for a team that has a head coach who can win games.

that is one of my issues with not running up the score, you may as well just end the game at half time as opposed to wasting everyones time by doing 3 snaps and kicking for the rest of the game.

And the winning coach in that famous game: John Heisman. Remember that when people complain about keeping in star players against pitiful opponents to rack up bug numbers and help their Heisman chances.

The backups get to practice in a real game situation. That's why this ended 72-0.

I played on some lousy college football teams but to give up 59 in a half you have to completely quit. There is no other explanation.

I know the UNM budget vs. that of their in-state rival, as well as the political moves they have made to make sure the athletic department has funds at the expense of other schools in the state. Just because they can spend the extra money they got for this pathetic exercise doesn't mean they actually need it.
