I'm sorry your son died in Iraq.

This doesn't give you the excuse to curbstomp my freedom to blow up pixelated representations of Taliban-style soldiers.

You know what they say....any press is good press.

I will now buy this game and wear one of my many marine t-shirts while playing the taliban in the game.

Or better yet, I'll buy as many copies as I can afford and give them away to active duty military members.

Go fark yourself lady. I'm old enough to make a decision to join the Marines and I'm certainly old enough to choose what farking video games I want to play. All she is doing is preventing service members getting them w/o having to pay sales taxes.

They came first for Pac Man,
and I didn't speak up because I don't play retro games.

Then they came for the Tekken,
and I didn't speak up because I didn't play fighting games.

Then they came for the Madden,
and I didn't speak up because I didn't play sports games.

Then they came for my Halo,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

How about we have the biggest LAN party ever, invite the Taliban, and the prize will be winning the war for whichever side is victorious. Then all we'd have to do is lower the minimum age for joining the military to 13 years old. We'd win, easy.

Counter-Strike has been out for years.

In the game, you get to play as terrorist and to win, you either have to:

1. Prevent the Counter-Terrorists/Good Guys from rescuing hostages
2. Blowing up office buildings/Aztec temples/Churches
3. Kill all the Good Guys

It has been played by thousands of gamers.

What makes this new MoH game so different?

Hell, iirc, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun did amazing in Japan, even though the game is a bunch of white guys killing Japanese soldiers.

We give too much power to people who are grieving. I'm sorry your son died. I'm sorry we didn't elect a president that wouldn't send us to Iraq and kill thousands of people for no damn reason.

But seriously, if we're supposed to give up our rights during the war in Afghanistan, then let's do it right.

We're spending less than 1% of our economy on the afghan war, and we have fewer than 60,000 people deployed.

If this is a war we want to win, then increase taxes to 90% on all income about $50K a year and randomly draft fifty million men and women between the ages of 18 and 65. Send the money and people to afghanistan for five years, and get this damned war done with.

Or, admit that this is just a forever war, and only America's WalMart class is being asked to pay the direct price.

I don't understand why everyone is so up in arms about this. So what, you can play as the Taliban... big deal. There's like a zillion games where you can play the bad guys... I'm not a zerg just because I can play them in starcraft, I'm not a zombie just because of some half-life mod. In fact, I'd wager to say that I've not seen a single confirmed case of anyone joining the Taliban because of a video game. There are a lot of bad people out there who would gladly do you harm, but annoying the good people out there who just want to go home and play games isn't going to curb the number of baddies out there.

She has repressed her anger and is inappropriately redirecting it at a game.

I agree that we should have a discussion about the place of violent video games in our society, and my part of the discussion is "Mind your own business. The first amendment protects us from self-proclaimed arbiters of 'taste'."

Whether it is a grieving mother or a crazy ass disbarred Florida attorney, the answer is consistently the same.

So let me get this straight... the young men who are fighting and dying, ostensibly to protect our freedom, no longer have the freedom themselves to purchase a legally produced product on base?"

Um, yeah... that makes sense. Something tells me that if this woman's son were still around and she tried this, he'd be correcting her right quickly.

TomD9938: You take your little games seriously.

This woman takes "little games" seriously enough that she's successfully worked to ban some of them from sale in some retail channels, and she's hoping to remove some of them entirely from all retail channels.

If you don't think these "little games" matter, then you should write this woman a letter and tell her to STFU and worry about something that does matter.

Personally, I worry a little about our addiction to an endless war being permenantly fought by the American underclass. But, I worry a lot more about asshats like you who seem to think it's OK to temporarily suspend the Bill of Right for the duration of what is starting to look a lot like an endless excursion.

PeppaJack: How is this any different than a game involving Nazi's? Germany killed more of our soldiers than the Taliban and every other terrorist organization combined.

People don't seem to think much. It seems like most people just throw themselves into emotional reaction.

If people thought, they'd actually make sense, and we wouldn't have controversy after controversy without conclusion. Men want to fight because of reasons beyond video games. If not, why would these video games be so popular? I feel like everyone is looking for that Person To Blame, and that Person better not face them in the mirror. It seems to be the new American Way.

I sincerely want to know if there is any evidence that the Founding Fathers knew that shyster lawyers would high-jack the legal system to cry wolf over spilt coffee. How do you develop a fair way to deal with that? (open-ended, I am really curious).

Virtual reality is virtual, and the off button on the gaming console reminds us of that. You can't fix headstrong/stubborn/trigger-happy/dumb. It's not the video game's fault. Parents have to teach that the TV isn't real

WireFire2: You know what they say....any press is good press.

No, no, this is the BEST kind of press. It doesn't get any better than this. Controversy sells games, this has been proven time and time again.

A great example is Call of Duty. It has been a long running series, but was mostly undifferentiated WW2 games. They did well, well enough to fun sequels but they weren't the kind of thing that non-FPS gamers were going "Man, I gotta get me some of that." Then came Call of Duty 4. A really good game over all, but what really drove sales was the controversy. It features US Marines getting blown up by a nuke and your character crawling from wreckage while dying. That one scene did more to sell the game than anything else. The firestorm of controversy was more marketing than you could hope for. Not only did a ton of people hear about it, but they all wanted to see what was up.

When they released World at War, the next game back in WWII, it did ok but nobody really cared. Game was fine, just didn't make headlines. The next game, Modern Warfare 2 returned the controversy and thus got the headlines and sold a TON of copies.

Whenever retards get up in arms can call for something to be banned, they drive sales better than anything else. The reason is people say "Man, if they want it banned, it must be really extreme. I want to see what it is."

Micheal Moore's best salesmen are angry right wingers. His movies have really sucked since Roger and Me, very undifferentiated quality, not entertaining and very preachy. All in all, something that probably wouldn't have a real large audience, only seen mostly by True Lefty Believer(tm) types. However then a bunch of angry righty tards stir up a shiatstorm. People say "Well I'd better go see what all the fuss is about!" The movies do great. He couldn't hype them that well even if he had a massive budget to do it. His enemies are far better at marketing than anything else.

It is just how it works. If someone produces something you don't like the most effective measure you can take is to not talk about it at all. Don't mention it, don't refer to it, just ignore it. The more you try and hate on it, the more people will just have to see what the hell is so damn interesting as to generate all the hate.

No, the problem is that Treyarch sucks at making games and Infinity Ward...um, sucks less.

Dear Mother,

Over the years the Medal of Honor franchise has seen numerous difficulties in the market. First we chased out some great developers who made the series notable, then we spent years running the franchise into the ground while losing market space to games such as Call of Duty and Halo. While we have tried to do many things in order to get people to pay attention to the franchise, despite our valiant efforts the demographic we aim for has chose to ignore the Medal of Honor games. Your current battle has seen our latest edition of the series smeared across most major news networks and has caused a lot of discussion about the content of the game, much like the vilified Grand Theft Auto series.

Our team at EA would just like to say thank you, you've done in a short time what our marketing department has been trying for years, namely to get people to actually realize that we still make Medal of Honor games (with the newest one being released in October 2010!). We are sorry for your loss but thankful for our gain.

Sincerly,

EA Games.

I vote for cock punches and beatings of people who are trying to take our rights.
