At what point does it stop being a swimming pool and start being a farking man-made lake?

ignite ice: At what point does it stop being a swimming pool and start being a farking man-made lake?

at the point that they are just pumping water in from the ocean on one side of the pool and then pumping it out from another

oh wait, that is what they are doing.

still cool pics.

has a 115 ft deep end

Yikes. I know it's just a pool, and I'd be able to see the bottom, but that would still freak me out a little bit.

Oh, and if anyone else wonders what's in that pyramid: it's a beach.

115 ft deep end is kinda the part that blows my mind. Normally that kinda deep water is all about the actual ocean or a lake.

I presume there's some huge "we can just hang out" normal 3 or 4 foot area though?

tenpoundsofcheese: oh wait, that is what they are doing.

So is it a salt pool, then? That'd be less cool I think...

Neat though yeah.

Hell yeah. I've had creepy dreams about really really deep pools like that, complete with lines painted on the bottom for no particular reason :)

I'm sure it's perfect for scuba learners though.

Lakes are fresh water, so it would not be a lake if that is what they are doing. Also, they have some big filtration system for the incoming and outgoing water. It makes me suspect they are desalinating it, though I may well be wrong.

Not all lakes.

It has that. I think the super deep part is just a case of "Fark it, we can do it, so let's do it".

You've never heard of Great Salt Lake in Utah? Salt Lake City took its name from the lake.

Salt water pools are awesome. There is no need for chemicals to keep it clean since they change the water constantly. You can open your eyes underwater with no burning, you don't stink afterwards, it doesn't screw up your hair or any of the other usual problems stemming from using chlorine.

A man made lake wouldn't likely be filtered and painted blue.

Smeggy Smurf: You can open your eyes underwater with no burning

In salt water?? I've always found my eyes burn way more in the ocean than they do at pools.

Now a light saline could be cool though, most definitely. I guess it depends on the exact body of water in question.

andyofne: A man made lake wouldn't likely be filtered and painted blue.

Yeah. It's the idea of a clear, cement, flat, POOL that makes this interesting. Otherwise you can just go to the ocean or Lake Superior or wherever.

/froze my ASS off swimming in Lake Superior though
//in midsummer even

Now if it had some fish in it I could see the point of having something that big, in fact it could be very useful if you had large whales in it. Maybe gray whales, then we could recreat star trek V.

Humpback whales. Star Trek IV.

And I don't even like Star Trek!

Evidently there was a Travel channel show on this pool. The water from the nearby ocean is too dang cold to swim in and has massive undertow so the guy made the pond so people could actually enjoy the water.

The real water is farking cold, with some sharks and what not.

I'd love to race a few little 420s up and down that.

HA I hate swimming pools - too noisy and full of kids urinating in the water. I can't imagine how bad this one would be. A funny story is last time I went swimming I wore some swimming shorts that were very tight (must have put on weight). So my friend says to me 'hey dude have you got an erection' so I look down and you can see my genitals quite clearly because of the tightness & water and I say 'no thats how it is normally' and he was like 'well I'm pretty jealous then!'. So looks like I'm OK in that department.
One thing I've been thinking about is doing water polo as there is a club at my work, have any of you played it. I'm not a big sports fan but I guess it sounds fun.

Yeah, but you gotta bring out the big guns to account for the volume of that pool. I'm thinking a case of Natty Ice should do it.

Looks very cool. And according to Tripadvisor, it is cool. As in rarely exceeds 68F. As an AZ gal, I need it to be around 90 before I actually jump in the pool.
Still, looks great.

Awesome, 4 laps and your 4,000 yard workout is done.

IM would be a biatch though.....
