What's the going rate on a $20 these days?

2010-09-04 09:52:56 AM
They were trying to buy drugs while out with their parent? THAT IS JUST NOT COOL, kids.

The drug detective got both of the teens' parents involved and decided not to issue any citations.

Maybe because no one knew what kind of drugs were involved. it would be kind of embarrassing to try to prosecute someone for attempted, unknown drug buy. If it even was drugs.....can they prove that? Did the kid or the cop mention a certain kind of drug? How can the police even claim that they had a case there?

Or maybe they didn't, so instead they're going to release this big blow-hard story about how they saved these teens from a life of drug abuse and 'did the right thing'.

/what is a "$20" anyway?

Maybe if they'd have kept their mouths shut and gotten a lawyer the sheriff wouldn't have had much of a case.

Live and learn...

Now that I RTFA, no citations? This sheriff is clearly slipping. They needed to cite the parents as well, and maybe shoot their dogs just for good measure.

Clearly the father put him up to it. Farking old people and their lack of hook ups.

I doubt that the message was spelled correctly, and had halfway-decent grammar, as in TFA.

Probably more of an intense reaction than if he got the real shiat.

What if the local sheriff IS your dealer?

Stranger things have happened.

Back in the dark ages, when only docs and dealers had pagers, the hospital sometimes turned pagers over to the police for a while. They were useless to us if we were getting 20-30 calls a night looking for drugs.

These were the old 'enter your callback number after the tone' pagers and people would happily enter their land line numbers. If we caught it before everyone in town had the magic pager number, we would stop the pages by calling them back and pretending they had just paged the cops. Officer Smith here, you paged me?

Pre-caller ID days.

A 20 bag is the sure sign of idiots too stupid to work in fractions.

"I dunno"
"I think he means a 25 bag?"

"When the detective saw there were parents that wanted to be involved he took the right action and I'm really proud of the deputy," Dutton said. "Trying to buy drugs is a crime, but it's probably worse that they had to face their parents.""

Wow.. actually not tying up the courts with useless stuff, giving the kids a hard-earned lesson, and possibly doing the right thing..I am impressed!

It should be legal, aside from that, it's great to see how this turned out

I love that the sheriff replied "how much we talking here"

About $20 worth, sir.

Fainting at the sight of a cop- not a good indication that one is cut out for a life of serious crime. The shiat that kid is going to get- probably punishment enough.

Yeah, it's hard to gain street cred if you faint when the cops show up. I can't get the image of a fainting goat out of my head.

Honestly who DIALS their dealer anymore? You have a cell phone, store them.

2 Little clowns called an acquaintance looking for weed. Acquaintance knowingly gave them the sheriff's number and hilarity ensued.

Legally there was nothing the sheriff could have done other than tell the parents, one of whom was apparently involved in the transaction.

If the text message was quoted accurately then jeez these kids are amateurs. You buy a 20, you buy a gram, you buy a dub. You do not purchase $20USD from your drug dealer.

This whole situation could have been avoided if they could just purchase it from a drug store.

2010-09-04 03:17:38 PM
So, what, he had like two wrinkly old $10 bills and wanted to exchange them for a crisp, clean $20 bill? Can't you just get your local bank to do that?

I be confuzzled.

That's better than getting nude pictures of your boss delivered to your cell at 4 AM.

Seriously, if you are going to send a message to someone - DOUBLE CHECK THE RECIPIENT BEFORE HITTING "SEND". For the love of God.

Three words that will make you rich:

Sexual. Harassment. Lawsuit.

ModernLuddite: Seriously, if you are going to send a message to someone - DOUBLE CHECK THE RECIPIENT BEFORE HITTING "SEND". For the love of God.

Now, I realize it's probably just due to the sheer power of large numbers, but it sure seems like I've seen way too many stories over the years here on FARK of hilarity ensuing when someone texts or otherwise contacts a law enforcement official while trying to score drugs, when meaning to contact their dealer instead.

What's with that?

I mean, I can totally understand hitting the wrong contact in your phone book, thereby explaining the awkward MMS from your boss. But I don't have any law enforcement in my phonebook, and if I were in the business of buying or selling contraband, I'd be doubly certain to keep it that way. Hell, even if I were out on parole, I'd make sure the number of my parole officer was away from all shenanigans.

I guess the saying that common sense is far from common holds its own.
