In the future, everything will be faked for 15 minutes

If you keep faking for 14:30 after I'm done I might start to suspect it isn't real.

I kinda think Warhol would have gotten a kick out of that.

The Local reported in 2007 on revelations that a large number of Warhol's Brillo boxes, which were donated to Moderna Museet, were worthless copies.

And how do you apply value to genuine Warhol Brillo boxes?

I think so. He seemed to be mocking the world. He's like an art troll. I bet he would giggle with delight that so many were tricked.

Dammit! Well put sir. It needed to be said.

It's kind of sad to think that all that investigation and forensics could have been used on something scientific, instead of determining whether these cheap mass produced cardboard boxes were cheap mass produced cardboard boxes or instead simply cheap mass produced cardboard boxes.

If they can't verify Warhol's works then how can anyone verify a lot of things sold under Jackson Pollock's name?

2010-09-04 01:04:40 PM
Can't tell them apart at all.

If past Fark threads have been any indication, this news obviously invalidates everything artistic ever.

"They sell for up to $100,000 dollars."

Suckers.

IIRC, later in life Salvador Dali sold a large number of blank, signed canvasses.

Agree with other posters...Warhol would approve. His studio was called 'The Factory' for a reason, he was broadcasting his sham to the world.

The works in question are Brillo boxes, pieces inspired by the real cardboard packaging of Brillo soap pads from the United States. They sell for up to $100,000 dollars.

If I were an artistic genius, I'd also see the beauty of cardboard boxes. Trying....trying........no, can't do it.

I don't even get a faked 15 minutes. I get a "What? No. I'm going to sleep. Go away."

This is why I farking hate modern art.

the works were mass produced in Skåne in southern Sweden in 1990 at the request of the museum's former head Pontus Hultén. Hultén later sold on the works for millions of kronor

Cheap mass-produced fakes?

Sounds about right for Warhol.

So these fakes are famous now... that's gotta be worth something.

This.

While my understanding of Pop Art is minimal, this is exactly the sort of thing Warhol would have loved.

I don't get it...

The originals were fakes of originals? How could you tell?

You receive a substantial donation of Warhol art. Do you A) send it to art experts to be appraised as realistic, B) investigate the ownership history of the donated art, or C) just assume it's real and put it on display.

I wonder if all the Corn Flakes boxes in the LA museum are real.

I'm wondering how exactly this authentication board was able to differentiate the worthless copies from the worthless originals.
