Wow, the owner of that car is likely to get some payout.
At least, I'd hope so.

He'll get tax value for the car. In about a year.

Did they charge the owner for putting them at risk yet?

It sounds a lot less threatening when they refer to it as "drink driving".

Yea and when the evo runs literal circles around your (insert two seater two door) I'll laugh.

In a perfect world both officers would lose their jobs, spend time in jail and be held personally responsible for the cost of replacing the car. In the real world they'll be "reprimanded" and the owner/suspect will never see a dime from anyone, not even the taxpayers.

6 cylinders, but, yes there are some exceptions if you pay. For 35k, give me a better car.

If you really want to be anal about it a sports car should have an open top too.

Being that pedantic isn't likely to make anyone happy though.

Zentelis: Do you brits really call them "drink drivers"

Yes. Or drunk drivers. But mostly, we call Lancer Evo drivers "twats".

\and I'm looking at you too, Mr 06 STI.

Bikes are only critically injurious when you lord one around public roads like it's your private racetrack.

Which a lot of car drivers do too. That's why there's about 3-4 of those curbside memorials on a long stretch of road here. There are some VERY thick (concrete) light poles that people who lose control of their vehicles always end up wrapped around.

Hmmm... that's funny, if I were to take a car that does not belong to me, and drive it recklessly resulting in property damage, I'm pretty sure I would be facing more than just disciplinary measures at work.

The law, how DOES it work?

Kay Kay Nay: Bikes are only critically injurious when you lord one around public roads like it's your private racetrack.

Pretty much any accident at highway speed or getting T boned is going to result in serious injury.

/Worst for me was when my rear tire valve tore off while doing ~80km/h, thankfully I kept it in control and no one ran over me.

Opened this article expecting a wrecked Ferrari or other supercar, maybe a lower end Porsche at worst.

But a Mitsubishi?

:eyeroll:

What's next, articles about smashed up turbo Volkswagons?

It depends.

If your job is to take cars that don't belong to you, and test drive them for vehicular efficiency and road-track stability, you see, then you might face only disciplinary action at work.

See?

Thisbymaster: Where is the grand thief auto charges? Destruction of property charges?

They're cops. They'll get a slap on the wrist and paid administrative leave.

If even that.

Joyriding trifecta in play?
Does it still count?

2010-09-03 11:57:46 PM
Do you find them much, these wrecked sports cars?

2010-09-04 12:00:30 AM
*sigh*

If only the accident were fatal.

2010-09-04 12:01:23 AM
If that happened around here, the cops would have gone back to the jail, shot the owner, put him back in his car, and claimed that they shot him in self defense.

and.. if everyone drove motorcycles that number would decrease?
