Just think if the US weren't so uptight. This would be full nude.

Just for reference; how many countries have fully nude sports on television?

Lingerie Football on TV with commercials, or all the nude woman engaged in every depraved act your mind can come up with for free on the internets? I'll stick with the free porn.

I loved Scott Adams' take on the holodeck, it was spot on. Of course the updated version would be Scarlett Johanssen and her twin. Or Christina Hendricks for the FARKers.

This gets on a major cable newtork but roller derby gets nothing? WTF? There are almost 400 derby leagues on 4 continents and you decided to put this crap on instead. Of course, you haven't really had anything good on in years, so why am I suprised? Who is doing the play-by-play: The Situation & some girl from Teen Mom? Way to play down to your audience!

/DNN is better for derby anyhow
// I am sure this will score big with the desperate male Farker demographic
///wonder if Vivid Video will do a season highlights DVD

Here I am.

Really my first thoughts were "I bet the football sucks." It's the beginning of football season. I'll watch East Popcorn State play instead of porn right now, I need my fix.

between WWE and TNA, there's not much more room for scripted sports entertainment on TV.

/really, i'd like to see a roller derby that's REAL, but every time i've seen it, it was blatantly fake.

Obviously you haven't kept up with it in the last 4-5 years or so. Modern flat track (and most modern banked track) roller derby is entirely real. No scripts, no pre-planned ending, no fighting (that's an automatic ejection and possible ban from the next bout) and amazingly no pay for any of the players. It is all done for the pure fun of just doing it. The main rule making body is the WFTDA (new window)which has an extensive rulebook for flat track derby. Currently there are 98 WFTDA teams and almost all other flat track derby teams use thier ruleset. The few banked track teams tend to use the WORD ruleset. Texas' Lonestar Rollergirls will at times have somewhat "throwback" bouts with penatly games and things but the skating is very real.

These girls train quite hard and serious injury does occur from time to time. Broken fingers, legs, coller bones, torn ligiments, concussions, and hips are just some of the things that the girls face that might unfortunately happen in a bout. It is a sport any girl can play. From someone that has never skater before to someone with 17 world titles in skating (yes, there is someone in derby like that). All it takes is hard work, dedication and the willigness to push for yourself and your team. Maybe not every girls makes it onto a travel team or even as a frequent player on a league's home team, but everyone (female or male) can get something out of the game. There are even a handfull of men's derby teams starting to pop up here and there.

Basically modern derby took an old bit of "sports entertainment" and turned it into a honest real sport. Try going to Derby News Network (new window) and watching some of the recent bouts or for a bit of banked track action go to LA Derby Dolls (new window) for some archived bouts. (It's real not scripted)
