1. Awesome
2. Filmed in 3D is different from being filmed in 2D and going through 3D conversion at last second. I don't care for 3D, but likely it will be released in both 3D and 2D like Avatar.
3. Tom Cruise is awesome. Fark off.

I have the script for this and he's certainly made some changes from the book.

Still, I'm very much looking forward to it...

Given Tom Cruise's performance in Tropic Thunder, I now think he may be able to pull off quite a bit more than I had originally given him credit for.

Sweet! This was totally worth this month's TF subscription.

I'll give it a read tonight.

And I think that Cruise can probably pull off "terrified by unimaginable horror" while running through dark passageways.

Ah, crap.

2010-09-03 06:45:47 PM
Chris Pine's name was also being tossed around, but his busy schedule may be too packed.

[insert Tom Cruise/packed joke here]

Cruise gets a pass from me with Interview With the Vampire and Collateral.

At the Mountains of Madness however, isn't something I'd want to take on.

Does the movie involve Tom Cruise being eaten by a Shoggoth? Because that would be pretty cool.

For once I agree with the studio. I haven't like Cruise in anything since Collateral and pretty much any other films he was in I like in spite of him.
/He's good if you need a manic psycho in your movie.
/One of the only people who thought his scenes in Tropic Thunder hurt the movie.

Tom Cruise can play crazy. Because it won't be acting. It would be a big jump to play a maverick scientist who plays by his own rules.

At first, I was all like "NNOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Then I read this:
He's also planning to star in a Tropic Thunder-spinoff movie about uber-mogul Les Grossman.

Then my head exploded. I'm dead now. Bye. You can have my comic collection.

Maybe Tom Cruise will play a cocky, arrogant hotshot who's there to prove the value of having confidence in yourself where he's set against a series of challenges that are increasingly unfair, until he shows us that cockiness, tempered with wisdom, is the order of the day.

/he always looks so freaking manic

Perhaps I've been living under a rock my whole life, but after reading some of the comments, I have to wonder since when did Cruise become such a hated and, apparently, un-watchable actor? What did he do to everyone? Maybe he's made a few sub-standard movies the past few years, but who hasn't? I can understand if you're not a big fan, but the guy isn't a terrible actor by any means, and he's made some good-to-great stuff. Yet, I don't know of anyone else who fuels the hatred that he does sometimes

2010-09-03 09:43:15 PM
Oh for the love of....

No. Don't do it. You might as well set the finance money on fire and film that. Tom Cruise and HP Lovecraft are not a mix any sane person would make. Lovecraft crafted tales of darkest horror, not a damn football movie where everyone pulls together to win it for the Gipper. Put Cruise in it and you guarantee another formulaic Hollywood piece of crap. He can't help himself.

2010-09-03 10:14:24 PM
Cruise was born to play this role..... he lives in Lovecraft's universe. He honestly believes that mankind is under the thumb of ancient powers from beyond the stars who have roamed this earth from before the birth of time. He has the look of an everyman who has looked into the abyss and has had his mind blasted by the horrible realization of his own insignificance given the scale of the universe and the vastness of time.

Seconded.

/Would settle for him being badly abused by a Dark Young in some fanfic.

This will either be really good or will blow chunks.

I adore Del Toro, but I have only ever been able to sit through 3 Tom Cruise movies all the way through.

Those being:

1)Jerry Maguire: I was 8-11yrs old at the time and pretty much MST3K'd the whole way through with my parents.

2)Legend: I like Fantasy movies. Fark off.

3)Tropic Thunder: I was impressed. Wonder what Ben Stiller did to drag a decent performance out of him?

2010-09-03 10:33:39 PM
Sooooo, when so we get the bad news? Movies filmed in 3-D are potentially awesome & Tom Cruise might be a freaky scientologist, but there's nothing wrong with his acting. Loved him in War of the Worlds.

2010-09-03 10:44:10 PM
C'mon he can play crazy. Just ask Oprahs couch.

2010-09-03 10:47:41 PM
I see more of an Adrien Brody type for this. A leading man who is slightly.. off.

Tom Cruise is pretty much Tom Cruise in his roles. Short, handsome but toothy, dumb pretending to be smart, and bipolar.

2010-09-03 10:56:52 PM
So we need someone who starts off a normal, sane person who slowly unhinges into a complete gibbering pool of crazy...sounds like typecasting to me.

Try Collateral. It's a good flick.

I just saw Piranha in 3d, my 1st 3d experience since Friday the 13th part 3 and i don't understand what all the hate on 3d is about. I really enjoyed the experience. It wasn't just crap flying at you it added immersion.

Tom Cruise is a psycopathic asshole.

That said, he's an amazing actor.

2010-09-04 12:44:18 AM
There are two actors I hate who keep appearing in movies I love. Nic Cage is one, and Cruise is the other.

3D is getting real now, filming IN 3D is very different from adding the lame 3D effect afterwards, and displays are being made so you don't need the glasses. I just wish people would go crazy for binaural audio like they do for 3D. It's much much more natural, when wearing binaural headphones it's just like hearing the exact sound that was recording as a (particular) human would.

I've read *a* Del Toro ATMOM script

Cruise is too old for the lead role
He might be a fit for one of the other main chars
But I'd prefer he wasn't in the movie

I've waited a long time for a ATMOM movie
And it doesn't need a movie star
It needs actors

Cruise has a whole two expressions
The look at me I'm all super serious expression
And the I'm biting the air manic happy expression
He has no range, it's either, or
A toggle switch

Tom Cruise doesn't act
He's Tom Cruise reciting lines
