you know, some people live in something else's environment and DON'T kill the something else. there's always the idea of making it work for all of an environment's inhabitants. we figured out how to fly to the moon and break apart atoms ... something makes me think us humans could figure this one out also.

Actually, it's 7 dead bears in the Springs this week. Mother and 2 cubs on Tuesday; another mother and 2 cubs on Thursday, and one shot(?) in a tree on Thursday. Between this and the moose running over a kid in Estes Park yesterday, it's getting a bit weird around here.

Bears would wisely avoid people if some dumb farkers didn't think they were giant teddy bears, feeding them and trying to coax them into feeling more comfortable around humans.

People have a responsibility to make critters like bears as unwelcome as possible in the areas we live. Don't give them access to food and do your best to scare them away when you see them. We'd have a lot fewer problems with wildlife if the animals knew that humans = a damned good chance of being shot at.

If yuppies and city folk would shut their yaps about baiting this would hardly be an issue. A bear doesn't want to come in your house and and look through your fridge anymore than it actually wants to be in a city. If you would feed the bears in the woods, they'll stay out of the populated areas. As an added bonus, establishments don't get to throw away as much food because its being brought into the woods to feed the bears.

I've lived in baiting and non-baiting states, and for some reason the baiting states with more bears have less of this in the news.
