The longshot is fun. It is absolutely massive, far bigger than it needs to be, but amusing for it. Design isn't great, but works. If you are a DIY type is can be modded to have a pump handle and a better barrel for better range and faster reload.

What's terrifying is that, even though I know you're just trolling for bites, your post is almost verbatim what my mom decreed for me and my brother. No toy guns, not violent toys of any type, no toys that could be "made" violent (legos)...hell, I wasn't allowed to see "Bambi" till I was 12 because of the violence.

Of course, at 30, now I play with swords and guns for a living, and help out part-time at a local gun store, all after leaving the Army. So you folks at home can see how well this sort of shiat turns out.

My mom tried the same tactic, starting when I was age 1. Everytime I made a toy gun out of sticks, she yelled at me. Everytime I wanted to fight or play in a violent way, she spanked me. On my fifth birthday, my uncle gave me a set of Go-Bots. She said I was so happy that I cried, at which point she gave up and let me have war toys.

I'm now 28. There has been enough time and distance that I can appreciate a toy like the Nerf Vulcan without worrying that it will raise a generation of orphaned child solders. If you want to protect your children against the glamour of warfare, take them to meet some real Iraq and Afghanistan vets.
