When they faked the Viking missions, did they use the same studio they used to fake the Apollo landing?

It's kinda weird to see 'Viking' in an article and not see Brett Favre mentioned 8 times... Brett Favre.

One more thing born the same year as me to make me feel old. I just found out the Metro system in my town is also as old as I am, nearly to the day.

/Get off my...erm, well manicured patch of grass that runs along my apartment building on the left side.

I didn't see Brett Farve jerking off with a pair of crocs on in any of those pictures, but I wouldn't put it past him.

Amusing - sorta - that two back-to-back Mars landers were successful in the 70s whereas in the 90s and 2000s seemingly every other attempt to get to Mars failed.

FTFA: For most people, the legacy of the Viking landers is in its pictures - the first surface photos of another planet.

Wrong! ffs

I'm sure there's a 'land on Uranus' joke somewhere, but I'll be damned if I can think of one...

I love that people doubt we went to the moon bt no one doubts the much more difficult mission of sending Viking to Mars.

Oh what a night
September 3, 1976
Viking lands but not without a hitch
What a landing, What a night

Oh what a night
12 hundred pounds of Lander in the sky
stabilization system went awry
Sweet surrender, What a night

Oh I
Had a funny feeling as it rolled
in descent
And I
As I recall the main antenna was quite bent

Oh what a night

Oh what a night

Pretty awesome when you consider that the kill ratio for any mission to Mars was 50%. Can't find the link, but somewhere out there in the intarwebs, there is a list of every nation's attempt to send probes to Mars, and the losses in cost and manpower for that many failures over 40+ years is astonishing.

That's pretty cool! Given the sulphuric atmosphere, I'm surprised the equipment lasted long enough to provide data.

No-one would have believed, in the last years of the 19th century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets. And yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes, and slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us.

Right. The correct order for sacking a town is:

Rape
Kill
Pillage
Burn
