People. People. Can we not just compromise and agree that rugby and American football are both games for flaming homosexuals. All the real men are to be found in the 20 km walk.

Well there and the modern pentathalon.

Hahaha, I wasn't sure who to barrack for, given that I hate both the Pommies and the Kiwis, but I find this result acceptable.

Also, to all the Yank trolls, please come back when you can invent a sport that anybody else gives a toss about. k thx.

Sorry the all-blacks lost. They are still the coolest team.

Springboks 28-19 full time.

2003-06-14 10:56:52 AM
The Boks intercept it via Juan Smith, who gets it to Joost. He can't release, but the Scots are penalised anyway. The full-time hooter sounds and Scott Young Blows his whisle. The Boks lucky to get away with a 28-19 victory over Scotland at Ellis Park.

Just classic, thanks for the link.

Any time...I am really hooked on this sport. I enjoy it more than the NFL. It really is an exciting game.

Sadly, since I live in the middle of farking nowhere, the closest teams are at Texas Tech (2hours north) or Dallas (3 hours east) so I don't ever get a chance to see it up close and personal. My kid and I are ratholing money away to go to the Super 12 grand final...He's only 15 so we have plenty of time to get it together.

What do black people call themselves in England?

Are they called African-Limeys?

Rugby will always be better than american football. Many of you knock the sport...why dont you try it, you might find it a heck of alot better than football.

Mr. Happy

Ideally, he wants to see the Brumbies play. That was the first match we watched...and the one that hooked us.

He's an All Blacks fan though when it comes to Tri Nations...The Haka made a big impression on him....Even though Gregan is the Wallaby Capitan.

I'm an American who tried rugby in college. It was a good time, and physical Batan Death March. I had more than one practice where I got my bell rung so hard that I needed assistance finding my house. Good times.

The road games were absolute debauchery. No sport has a better party environment after the game. I think indictments are still pending from a trip to Knoxville we took in 1992.

Rugby and American Football can coexist in my book.

Copthill

One of the best matches I saw this year was Blues at Bulls. Great match all the way to full time!

Shame that was the only good thing in SA Super 12 this year.

For the most part, they probably call themselves English, just like everyone else.

Not a huge spectator sports fan, but Aussie friends took me to a Waratahs (sp?) game once and it was amazing to watch. And I've since voluntarily watched Super 12 games with my Kiwi friends on TV.

Even though all of the men in my family, even a couple of generations back, played American football (well, the Canadian version thereof which at least involves more running and action than NFL) (commence new flame war!) and are big CFL fans, I find rugby far more exciting to watch than American football.

Tho my great-granddad played rugby for a champion team (forget who they were).

And I'm a girl, so any offended guys can comfort themselves knowing this makes my opinion null.

And face it guys, pretty much any sport involving ass-patting, tight pants and one guy staring into another guy's ass, waiting for him to shoot a large, brown thing out of it (pointed at both ends), is pretty homoerotic.

Pretty much anything manly is going to be homoerotic. Get over it.a

...and I should add, out of loyalty to my dad, brother, and grand-dad, I don't mind watching football and haven't missed a Grey Cup in quite a few years.a

in the late 70's i was the token guitar-whitey in a funk band (that was the style back then). after i got addicted to collards & heroin, they decided i was unmanagable, so they fired me.

i donno what this has to do with this story, but i love to tell this story.

Huh?

2003-06-14 03:02:58 PM
That's a whole lotta whitefolk for a team called the All-Blacks.

2003-06-14 06:34:39 PM
...the name I heard once comes from a typo..during the all blacks tour over seas somewheres. I dont know if this is the real story but what happened was, at the time the all blacks delievered a style of rugby unseen before very fast...and a reporter wrote down that the new zealand side played like "all backs"...a typo resulted in "all blacks" im not sure if this is right or not.

Just one further note on the 'eccentric' refereeing.

How the fark did the video ref fail to see that Howlett was offside for the All-Blacks try?

D0da you shouldn't state anything as fact unless you know it's right. For example the saying is about the differance between league and Union when league was professional and union was still amatuer.
It actually goes along the lines of:

Rugby Reague is a game for thugs, played by gentlemen
Rugby Union is a game for gentlemen, played by thugs

It's surprising New Zealand has been number 1 in so many sports for so long over the years - being a country with a population of less than the size of HOUSTON. So go on Australia and England, gloat away! You only have a trillian bazillion more prospective players to choose from! The fact that a country the size of one of your cities can whip your arse (although, not so much these days)... Okay, I guess that is a good reason for you to gloat when you DO win.

And you Americans can scoff all you want at rugby - your cities pay our citizens craploads of money to come over to your country and play sports for you. I met a bunch of other Kiwis when I was living in Austin and they had all been paid to come over and play rugby.

Has anyone noticed how American sports always have a "World Series" where they are they only teams? Yeeeah.

I don't see what the big deal is - the Wallabies beat the All Blacks all the time........
