"The 40,000-pound load of beer - consisting of shrink-wrapped pallets of bottles and cans"

Probably a Budweiser truck, so no real loss.

/beer snob ftw

I, for one, did NOT know it was common practice to purposefully stop a truck which may soon be out of control. Suddenly, a new career opportunity opens before me.

nuts.

I don't think they'll find the truck faulty.
The driver was probably hopped up on something. Maybe he was popping pils.
Noone hurt but a bitter cleaning up to do at the very yeast.

If only Harry Chapin was alive we could have gotten a great song out of this.

davidphogan: If only Harry Chapin was alive we could have gotten a great song out of this.

It was just after dawn when the truck started up
The hill that leads into Santa Cruz California.
Carrying forty thousand pounds of Budweiser.
Carrying forty thousand pounds of Budweiser.

He was a young driver,
just out on his second job.
And he was carrying the next day's tasty brews
For everyone in that seaside city,
Where children play without despair
At the boardwalk, and folks manage to drink each day
About forty thousand pounds of Budweiser.
Yes, just about forty thousand pounds of Budweiser.

/with apologies to Harry

Might as well get a few rounds of Disc Golf in at DeLaveaga!

(Haven't been there myself since 1999, no idea what condition it's in anymore. Incredible freaking course when I was there.)

It would take a stout truck to survive the driver in the article.

The truck wasn't very stout. I hope the people don't ale for too long.

The legend lives on from the Spaniards on down
Of the big hill they call Coodja beerme
The road, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of September turn gloomy.

With a load of canned Coors - 40,000 pounds more
Than the big semi-trailer weighed empty
The driver well knew, that his brakes lacked good shoes
When the blue smoke was billowin' freely.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the jake brakes won't retard the engine?
The troopers all say when he left San Jose
He shoulda left fifteen pallets behind him.

/see your Harry

Old news is old. That, and no beer spilled out (yes, drove past it yesterday morning on my way over the hill.)

There was speculation this truck carrying the first shipment of Blanco Basura 5-packs (new window) headed for Santa Cruz, but Scott says no.

/heading off to check my local grocer...
