I would comment on the video, except I was blindsided by the raving lunatic stating that "oil is the root cause of cancer" in the Weeners on that page.

Because remember kids, the sun can't POSSIBLY cause cancer - it's oil's fault.

/it's fair to blame "Big Oil" on a lot of things
//this isn't one of them

Vimeo videos will not play on my machine - I have no idea why, and have been trying to figure it out for months. Am I missing anything good? Sounds like a bittersweet, nice story, but I'd like to see the darn vid. Hoping someone re-posts it to youtube.

Cancer's a biatch. When the docs thought I was not going to make it through the treatments, the one thing that gave me comfort was that I wouldn't be leaving much behind. Is that weird? My chemo buddy didn't make it, and it crushed me that he had left behind a wife and children. God, that effected me so very much, and I still don't understand why.

/don't pay any attention to me, I'm in a very weird mood this morning

Not to disagree with your main point but the guy had bowel cancer.

Unless the sun shone out this guys arse i think we can rule it out as a cause as well....

Did someone squeeze a bunch of crude up his rectum and make it happen that way? Doubt it.

Is oil - as well as products derived from it - a potential source of cancer? Yes, of course. Is it the only carcinogen in the world? Far from it. Standing in the sun, being overweight, and simply being born are potential causes of cancer.

And my "main point" was my only point - some arsehat on that page stated in no unclear terms "oil is the root cause of cancer". That's simply moronic.

I wasn't sad for myself, I figured I'd be dead. My now-five son was not yet three and my daughter was young enough where the week count mattered. Was told it doesn't have a known cure. He said he wouldn't say "18 months" or anything like that... just hearing that itself was traumatic.
Three surgeries and three hospitalizations later... have a couple clean scans in a row. Fingers crossed for bloodwork in a couple weeks.

Certainly not speaking for that bloke, but if someone says "Republican/Democrats are evil!", do you take it to mean every single person who affiliates with the party is evil or do you allow for some slack in that case?

Don't you think you are making a whole lot out of a very non-specific post by someone who (if he isn't doctorlee) isn't even the one making the argument?

Knockin' on wood for ya, stebain. My grandfather has been diagnosed w/ cancer 3 or 4 different times (each time w/ a different type) and each time has gone into remission, so it *can* be done.

Wow, what a jerk. For his wife's birthday, he makes her a video that's going to make her feel like shait for the rest of her life. What a great guy! I'm sure she'll off herself three birthdays from now because the pain will be too much to handle.

I hope he dies of ass cancer...oh wait.

2010-09-03 08:41:52 AM
Wow... that was seriously moving (to me) -- just wow.
The song was good, a little confusing since apparently she already did marry him, but I think it was beautiful. Seriously cute kids there, also.
I hope this guy makes it. If he doesn't, the ending of the video is going to be haunting, the way he just sort of walks away into - well, darkness.

And if Jackman had said 'no' he'd be the world's biggest dick, right?

Since this guy was able to get the Prime Minister to get in on the act, as well, I wonder how many favors were pulled in? How connected is this guy? did Jackman hear about it, and become personally touched? or did his agent tell him he needed to do this for the PR?

FTFA: "Kristian produced a video that includes Hugh Jackman, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, lots of "Subterranean Homesick Blues"-like poster boards, a Train song called "Marry Me," and their two adorable children."

So, are the Andersons' broke and this actually would mean something to them, or is this another rich folks story?

/realizes many of Fark's members are affluent and/or connected themselves, and would see nothing wrong

Unless he has some VERY interesting passtimes, I think the cause of his BOWEL cancer is probably more likely to be oil than the sun.

/not that Oil hitting the anus doesn't suggest that he leads a slightly abnormal life...

I suppose I could riff a list of things that I care as little about as our last week together. Lemme see, uhh... Low-carb diets. Michael Moore. The Republican National Convention. Kabbalah and all Kabbalah-related products. Hi-def TV, the Bush daughters, wireless hot spots, 'The O.C.', the U.N., recycling, getting Punk'd, Danny Gans, the Latin Grammys, the real Grammys. Jeff, that Wiggle who sleeps too darn much! The Yankees payroll, all the red states, all the blue states, every hybrid car, every talk show host! Everything on the planet, everything in the solar system, everything everything everything everything everything everything - eve - everything that exists - past, present and future, in all discovered and undiscovered dimensions. Oh! And Hugh Jackman.
