students have been vocal about the novelty items on blogs and other sites such as Facebook, saying they want to wear them in support of what they believe is a good cause.

Right. That's why they want to wear them.

So there are body parts you aren't allowed to acknowledge you like or have?

I love my spleen.

A number of other school districts require students to flip the bracelets inside out so the word "boobies" is not visible.

It's a bracelet. Worn on the wrist. Subby, I am so disappointed.

// So its about the word, then.

submitter: Boobies bracelets cause quite a stir in schools. Boobies

What an amazing coincidence! Boobies tend to cause quite a stir in my pants. :D

TFA: The bracelets say "I [heart] Boobies" and are part of a nationwide campaign launched several months ago to make young people more aware of breast cancer.

Pediatric and adolescent breast cancer is uncommon and unlikely.

This campaign is akin to promoting colon cancer awareness or prostate cancer awareness among children: namely, a pointless exercise about something they really don't need to fret about when they're kids.

What a stupid campaign. Next time try something, I dunno, RELEVANT, like childhood obesity?

So this is a campaign for Farkers? Not too many of us dislike boobies.

It's the new fad, like rainbow parties, except more along the lines of ring toss.

Oh NO! Not MODESTY or decency in a public school! It's unreasonable! I'll do what I want, etc., etc.! Down with Glenn Beck! Down with teabaggers! Racists! We should lobotomize the moderates and conservatives on the politics tab!

2010-09-03 05:16:51 AM
Where's my I [heart] Testicles bracelet, huh? And their corresponding Testicular Cancer month?! No love. No love at all.

2010-09-03 05:18:20 AM
Failmitter missed a perfect opportunity to use the boobies tag.

Indeed, makes prefect sense to not mention anything children won't actually experience. Like calculus.

appropriate login, BTW.

"We also feel that the word 'boobies' is not a four-letter word."

It's good to know they're still teaching math in school.

Lol central valley. But yes, the modern facination with only one kind of cancer at the expense of others that are much more deadly is a bit disturbed, but I guess it is good that we cause use our love for procreating to get more research on any cancer.

Yeah. Cancer only affects those who have it and not, say, their loved ones.

See farkers. This is what you look like when you don't read the article.

//or when you have a seizure, that could also be what is going on in that post.
//also demon possession.

Stopped at a local drive-in the other night. The carhop was wearing a "boobies" bracelet. I had to look. She barely had any. Yes, I figured it was for breast cancer awareness. It was late, so I figured she was at least 18.

Nice to see public attention drawn to female breasts. I think it's totally tits. You'd be a boob to disagree. Milwaukee even had a police chief named Arreola. Joe Walsh approves as well.

No img1.fark.net Boobies tag???

WTF?? HOW MUCH MORE BOOBIES CAN YOU GET??

Well, I might wear an "I ♥ My Testicles", because I don't give a shiat about anyone else's.

Supporting the cause my arse. They're only doing this because they're AWs. Mission accomplished.

What good will making a bunch of broke dumb kids aware of cancer do? Are they going to donate their lunch money once a month? At this point, what good does making anyone "aware" of it do? I'm pretty sure with the saturation media campaign of the last two decades, every girl over 8 and most boys over 15 already know more than they'd like to. Everyone who's ever known someone with any major disease already knows it sucks bad, knowing its specifics doesn't change that. Making people aware hasn't cured anything, yet.

Let's cure it, not commercialize it.

2010-09-03 05:51:24 AM
Also surprised no one mentioned this: On one of several Facebook pages dedicated to the bracelets, one student wrote, "I wear like 47 boobie bracelets, supportin' cancer research is the way to go!" Another student wrote, "[T]o all the principals who think it's PERVERTED for us to wear them, its [sic] called THE FIRST AMENDMENT."

LAWL first amendment in school, don't they teach anything to kids anymore.

fortunately cures for breast cancer have already been found, and farked. This is why the Susan G Komen stuff is such a scam, well that and the fact that in most instances all the money raised is spent on everything except breast cancer research.

I thought that a "boobies bracelet" was that thing that Janet Jackson was wearing when she had her wardrobe malfunction.

2010-09-03 06:40:43 AM
Idiots. If I had a chance to talk to any of the officials who are cracking down on the bracelets, I'd demand that they show me a basis for the word "boobies" used in that context being "sexually suggestive" that isn't arbitrary

What about the brown bracelets, for Colon Cancer awareness?

I got nothin..

trixter_nl: This is why the Susan G Komen stuff is such a scam

Didn't they try to trademark any use of the color pink in reference to breast cancer or pull some other obnoxious stunt?

walker

And is that why that shirt says "ta-tas" and not boobies?

2010-09-03 06:49:36 AM
Gee, with all these "save the females from disease" groups and campaigns, you'd think men never get sick, but you know, women are SOOO disadvantaged.

OK, someone explain this one please:

Pink Glove Dance

I'm not saying it's not cute. I'm just confused what message about "breast cancer awareness" this is. That it's danceable and totally awesome?

For that matter, what is ANY "breast cancer awareness"? Because at this point I don't think there are many people who aren't aware of breast cancer. I'm just stumped at some of the "wear pink and you're helping somehow" efforts.

Amurica where words (booby, muslim, commie) terrify people. Gawd how pathetic.

2010-09-03 06:55:56 AM
Yeah, they have those at Spencer Gifts.

I wanted the black one that read, FARK YOU, CANCER! but they were all out.

Now that bracelet I would say is inappropriate for school. The boobies one? Just Good Clean Fun and an Important Message.

2010-09-03 07:01:42 AM
Yeah, they have those at Spencer Gifts.

I have strongly suspected for years that proceeds from the sale of these "message" bracelets and magnet ribbons go nowhere near the cause they are supposed to benefit.

That thought is always there, but you can't let suspicions get in the way of charity :)
