I know I'd vote for him.

Anyone who can kill a child in Africa each time he claps his hands has some major superpowers. Can you think what would happen if he were against us?

Seconded.
That whole "save the planet" thing is just his guilt trip from burning those orphanages down..

"I knew he would work with George (W. Bush) well, and with none of the prissy disdain of most of his ilk."

Nope. Just the prissy.

No, I stand by my original statement. Bush was a joke.

Bono has landfill potential too.

This headline made me think of one thing, and of one thing only (pops).

/Bono will be the one to knock it down.

I agree with you really, but I like arguing so it's worth noting that he was not forced to resign, and could have stayed on, but Gordon Brown's ambition coupled with support in the media would have inevitably led to such a fractious split that the party would have suffered as much as the Conservatives did in the early 90's after the Euro problems. It was a choice to put the party over his own ambition to rule forever.

That's about the only positive way I could think of summing up his actions. He would be proud because of all the spin I used. Need a shower now.

Also don't forget he had Dr. Kelly killed, he could do the same to us!

/Just for the record, I think Blair is an odious swine, but he was easily the best Labour PM the country has had in the last 40 years.

HappyHarryHardOn: Spineless? Check

Not really. He robustly stuck to his principals throughout and continues to defend them. His principals were frequently wrong, but that's an entirely different matter.

/joins Slaxl in the shower

Subby, effectively telling a million people on the streets of London in 2003 "fark off, we're invading Iraq" is a quite a lot of things, but certainly not spineless.

Also, aren't all former Prime Ministers forced to resign? Isn't that how they gain the title "former"?

GaryPDX: He'll lose against Obama. He's too white.

I thought the Irish were the Blacks of Europe.

Bono has the same grasp of world issues as any above-average university economics or politics student; maybe even less. He just has a better social network, because politicians are mostly dorks* and want to improve their image by hanging with aging rock stars who were cool a decade or two ago, when said politicians still paid attention to pop culture.

Bono's managed to successfully leverage his aging-rock-star celebrity into politician access, and he's used his fame to try to publicly guilt trip them into making world conditions a little better. I have to give him props for that, but it doesn't mean he has the skill set to lead anyone anywhere. He's just smarter and more successful than Bob Geldof.

/* Dork exception: Barack Obama, whose cool points would be diminished by hanging with Bono
//Nicolas Sarkozy actually married his aging music star aquaintance.

2CountyFairs: Also, aren't all former Prime Ministers forced to resign? Isn't that how they gain the title "former"?

Blair resigned while still in office, his party didn't lose power in an election while he was their leader.

He also:-

1) Got the economy at just the right point in the cycle (after it had bottomed out).
2) Was facing a party who had been in power for 18 years who then imploded.

He's hugely charismatic as a leader, but behind that, there's very little going on. Tony Blair is about nothing but Tony Blair. Look how quickly he quit as an MP after quitting as Prime Minister. No-one else has done that. They at least served out the end of their term.

Look at all the damage his book is causing to his party, just to spice it up and sell a few more copies.

Iraq was about nothing but making Blair into an international statesman. A real prime minister would have either made the case for attacking Saddam Hussein based on the facts, or confronted the Americans. He took the coward's way and just spun some bullshiat about WMDs.

Then run for office. If the people agree, you're in and do your best. Otherwise, shut up and sing.

Saw U2 perform in Helsinki a couple weeks ago. Walked out of the stadium, and my wife said "I never thought Bono was handsome, but he has more charisma on stage than any man I've ever seen."

Hope I'm No. 2.

I'm the Foot Farking Master:
"Bono didn't SET the record... He IS the record."

That record is skipping.

The only ability he has to lead is his proven track record of being able to lead deaf sheep.
