Good for them. I saw War a few years ago at a 3 day festival and those guys tore it up. Easily one of the major highlights of the whole thing. I saw a few good bands that weekend but War and Bonnie Raitt were the 2 shows that made me smile contentedly.

Glad to know they didn't willingly let Pepsi appropriate their song.

Close, subby, but not quite.

If only Pepsi had someone to take care of all this legal mumbojumbo for them.

What would've happened if Pepsi had stolen "The Cisco Kid"?

Ok, scratch that, I'm thinking of "War" the band, not "War" the song. Need coffee.

Half the time companies just ignore the legal recommendations of their lawyers and blatantly violate agreements, then expect the lawyer to fix it.

That's some impressive RIAA math right there.

What's with the hate War?

Why can't we be friends?

fluffy2097: That's some impressive RIAA math right there.

Actually, I don't know about that. Pepsi commercials run regularly and nationwide, reaching millions of potential consumers every day for the entire run of the commercial. The song is well-known, loved, and catchy... people then associate Pepsi with those good qualities. National advertising is big business, and you can either pay some in advance or pay a lot more in arrears. PepsiCo will settle for less than $10M anyhow.

I'm sure Orly Taitz is free; plus she's a dentist so she can help with soda-teeth interface problems while she's on the clock.

Pepsi didn't want to pay the low rider, so they took the wine.

I don't watch TV so I've never seen the commerical and the article was unclear. Did Pepsi use War's actual recording without paying for it, because someone needs fired at the ad agancy if that's the case. Having a sound alike record the song is bad enough if the songwriter didn't get paid, but stealing a performance for use in a commercial is just plain wacky.

2010-09-02 02:05:16 PM
Probably, Pepsi had a deal with the record company, and it is the record company that violated the licensing agreement. It will all come out in the wash. Lawyers will be paid, but not the artist.

I still love how Pepsi has to try and take shots of Coca-Cola. When was the last time you saw a Coca-Cola commercial take shots at Pepsi?

2010-09-02 02:25:18 PM
I wonder if this is a case of the label not paying the artist? Pepsi pays whatever label holds the rights and the label does not pay the artist.

I would doubt a nationwide ad campaign would not be paying someone.

I don't drink coke or pepsi very often, but I've always thought that pepsi was for the poor class and coke was for more middle or upper class. Even though they are the same price.

I also think that sprite is for blacks and coke is for whites, for some reason. Yeah, I know.

I'd rather have a beer. And I am well aware that I use ridiculous generalizing statements which make me sound uninformed and spiteful / hateful.

When I think of what the fattest enjoy, it seems to be pepsi products. Also, the skinniest of our meth communities seem to be mountain dew folks too.

/pop is kind of trashy all around.

I know, it's only Coca-Cola, but I like it.

Actually I do like the Mexican Coke made with sugar, but I'm partial to the drinks made with real sugar instead of that nasty syrup. Root beer especially, but pretty much any soft drink made with sugar tastes OK, while the syrupy ones are (for me) undrinkable.

I saw names of soda brands, otherwise your diatribe was an incoherent rant. So I will respond appropriately.

LOL WUT?

No, I think everyone "got it" but most ignored the headline and discussed the matter at hand. The headline was fail.

Record labels are trustworthy and respectful organizations that are only looking out for the best interests of their artists

Coca Cola > Dr. Pepper > RC > Pepsi

"Summer" is my favorite song by War.
