Looks like it will be passing too close to Cape Cod for comfort. Time to pull the boat, buy gas for the generator, bar oil for the chainsaw and lay in plenty of booze. That should just about do it.

Earl: [ muffled voice ] Flowers.

Carolina: Flowers? From whom?

Earl: [ muffled voice ] Plumber, ma'am..

Carolina: I don't need a plumber. You're that clever hurricane, aren't you?

Earl: [ muffled voice ] Candygram.

Carolina: Candygram, my foot! Get out of here before I call the proper authorities. You're the hurricane, and you know it.

Earl: [ muffled voice ] I'm only a tropical depression, ma'am..

Carolina: A tropical depression? Well.. okay..

Pfft...we never get anything. I've been here for almost 20 years and we've only been "hit" twice: Gloria & Hugo. And all they did was throw sand onto Rte. 35.

The Halloween Storm in 1991, though--that was a thing to behold. But that was a Nor'easter, not a hurricane.

You sound like the park ranger from Ocean County Park I talked to yesterday. He said they're STILL cutting up trees from the storms this past winter & spring. Went for a bike ride through there in April & I'm not surprised. It looked like the trunk of every pine tree over 20' simply exploded.

I'll be going to your site in a jiffy, vicejay. I've been spending a lot of time on storm2k.org- very technical and a little bickery, but it has up-to-the-minute info.

So, vicejay: I have a feeling that the East Coast emergency management folks are dropping their collective balls on this storm. I believe Earl will rake the coast and cause some real damage, especially as it pushes the surge along its northwestern wall. Plus, what about the Labor Day vacationers who won't leave becaus they've paid big money for their rentals? I think people are being waayyyyy too complacent.

What are your thoughts?

I'd laugh my ass off if Earl breezed through Sleazeside Hts, picked up Snooki, and dropped her fat ass right on Bridgeport. It would be like an orange lard explosion. People would be walking around all like "The f*ck, Earl, you turned us all in to walking, talking Cheetos Puffs? You wash this Long Island sh*t off of us RIGHT NOW!"

How about dropping that skank on Westport for a change. Earl can redeem every hurricane ever if he dumps her on Michael Bolton's house.

Well, the western half of the storm is the 'weaker' side.. so that will give them a bit of a break.. but you're right, I think they're putting too much stock in the models. If it were coming this close to my family in Louisiana, they'd be evacuating.

Maybe you can answer this. Will people living on the bay side of Kill Devil Hills be more affected by the storm than people living on the ocean side of the town?

As long as my friend's wedding on Saturday is dry, I'll be happy.

2010-09-02 04:41:37 PM
Anyone who chose to stay in Kill Devil Hills for this will be sorry they did. The eye doesn't have to pass overhead- plus, it's the surge that does damage to the coastal islands

There will be flooding on both sides as the wind shifts while it goes by.

/Oh, and high tide is ~2AM, just as the eye is going by the area
