People don't get admitted to the hospital after smoking pot; they get admitted to the morgue. It's a fact, look it up.

Mother Theresa thought of the suffering people first. She gave selflessly and focused only on the good qualities within us all. She demonstrated a level of humanity that 99% of us will never truly grasp...

And now she's dead.

bump: Mother Theresa thought of the suffering people first. was a piece of shiat who exacerbated peoples' suffering rather than ameliorating it. She piled the sick and dying into her convents and wouldn't allow family or friends to visit because she felt that suffering brought people closer to god. Rather than actually helping she just traveled the world raising funds for more convents to do the exact same shiat.

Fixed. Period.

funny story, according to the NHS Paracetamol toxicity still leads over alcohol as the leading cause of liver failure in the UK by leaps and bounds, (same for the US btw). So pull your panties out of your crotches and take a long look at big pharma before you run around raising liquor taxes "to save lives" or "for public health". Stop spiking addictive hydrocodone with deadly paracetamol. It's like mixing cocaine and arsenic, highly addictive AND highly toxic.

DWA HA HA HA. She was a deluded sadist. She refused donations of painkillers, refused to allow people to be taken from her torture facility to real hospitals. Repeatedly said that suffering brings people closer to god. Only allowed cold rags even for the most severely inured. Refused red cross co-operation (painkillers again). Seriously haven't any of you people ever read up on her? She's like the dude from SAW, but with really good PR.

The one time it happened to me:
1) Athens, GA, partying with a friend
2) couple of pitchers, bar-hopping
3) dollar shooters...
5) woke up in the hospital, covered in vomit and blood, with vague memories of staggering around town trying to walk to Atlanta in the middle of the night

Goddamn blue poppa smurfs. I couldn't drink again for a year...month couple of weeks. Good thing I know how to drink. An amateur would have had a rough time of it.

The Athens cops were really, really nice. They had every right to be disgusted with me, but they were very solicitous and polite. It seemed like they really cared. I don't know what the hell is wrong with them. They must see that crap a dozen times a night.

Um... not sure if serious. 'Deadly paracetamol'? Hydrocodone is more deadly than acetaminophen with an overdose. Stop trying to take huge recreational doses of a prescription drug. Just go straight with heroin. It's cheaper, too.

Pragmatically, this is is true. Consider the following form:

"People don't get admitted to the hospital after ___________; they get admitted to the morgue. It's a fact, look it up."

Write anything you want in the blank and it'll be true if you wait long enough.

Not sure about that generalization.

That means almost two people were admitted to hospital for alcohol-related harm every minute

I'm not doubting the problem, just without a definition of alcohol related harm, I'm skeptical.

Let's say we find someone willing to tickle their sphincter with a feather. Thankfully "sphincter" is a very generic term that applies to many bodily orifices including the mouth and eyes so we won't have to worry about legal age limits...

So with sphincter thus tickled, we wait. I'd wager 100 years should be more than adequate to ensure that person has ended up on a morgue table.

See? Works fine!

IMHO when the hospital visit is the result of something self inflicted it should cost dearly, or you only get helped once.

At some point you just have to cut your losses and move on. Enough people need medical help in this world.

The person who gets their stomach pumped repeatedly is just going to get in their car next time and get in an accident. I'm all for making medicine more accessible... but not so much for the self inflicted stuff.

Same goes for the asshat who goes surfing in a hurricane and goes missing. IMHO that search shouldn't be risking rescuers lives and resources because someone thought it would be fun to surf a hurricane.

This isn't rationing... it's just leaving people to their own devices. If this is the fate they choose, why should society stand in their way? It serves nobody.

Addiction does not work that way! Unfortunately the only ways out require a lot of patience and a latitude for relapse.

Acetaminophen is the leading cause of ACUTE liver failure.

alcohol consumption usually causes Chronic Liver Failure.

Tylenol is dangerous if used in high enough doses (>4g a day), but then again so is water.
