Is this in Atlanta?

DragonCon is held in downtown Atlanta during Labor Day weekend every year.

I believe that is correct.

That is the Downtown Hilton, right?

What's REALLY funny is that DragonCon and the Chick-Fil-A College Football Kickoff game are held in the same weekend and you have nerds in well-made costumes mingling with college football fans all through downtown Atlanta.

It is quite fun to watch their reactions to each other.

Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and Sheraton. Most of the events will be in the Marriott, Hyatt, and Hilton though as we just use the Sheraton as a dumping grounds for the Trekkies and the gamers.

Especially at midnight after the game. I enjoy the sight of stormtroopers jockeying with hicks at the bar for drinks.

Yes, football nerds and...other nerds.

Was real nice last year when some people got egged from a passing car full of sports nerds.

Have a few a great many drinks for me this weekend. I would love to meet and join you all but sadly I don't have the extra cash for the trip this year, next year perhaps? I hate missing a sleep-free alcohol-fueled extended weekend with a bunch of costumed misfits.

So Ian, what's it like to be a somewhat less successful version of Eric Baumann? Have you found anyone else's ideas to steal and sell for profit, or will Comic-Con be your only steady source of income for the next little while?

Pretty stupid venue for Drew to be in. Is he involved in comics? gaming?
Someone show up to keep the dude company, and answer the slough of nerds asking who the fark Drew Curtis is.

So...is this the actual Hilton bar, or Trader Vic's?

My boss will be at Dragon Con, dressed as a super hero (no, I won't tell you which one). I spent last Sunday making props for her costume. I kind of wish I could go, but it might be just a little too geeky for me to handle.

Go. You will love it. You will find something you LOVE.
I am not going to it this year, but I will be crowd/nerd watching. But I am getting tickets for next year ASAP.

Well, I might have to check out the art of Akira thing just because Drew will be roaming around. Only to say hi of course. I won't be around Saturday, and got a lot of things going on the rest of the time.

I agree. I went for the first time three years ago, dragged by my bf and under mild duress for the same reason (I'm pretty dorky...but am I "convention" dorky?). I've always had a fabulous time, people watching if nothing else. It's a three-day costume party. Who doesn't love that?

Glad I'm OTP, would hate to be an ITP this weekend. Although the racetrack is south of the city a good ways.

/TP stands for The Perimeter(I-285) for non-North Georgians.

See yunz there, it's my virgin voyage to DragonCon, BE GENTLE.

Oh, and I'll probably be hangin' with Not An Alt, but not in that way, you sickos.

I'm somewhat of a nerd, but even I think that nerds don't need more than one Comic Con or Otaku love fest.

//No, I don't go to these events. I play a game or read a book occasionally, I don't want to live in them.

Wow! Drunken red neck college football fans and geeks/dweebs in costumes running around Atlanta with its usual marauding groups on a long holiday weekend. Can we get some webcams set up around town. I'll even pay...

2010-09-02 01:01:59 PM
I could tote my laptop around and use the built-in webcam and my mobile internet to stream some video on ustream or something like that. If there's interest here, I'll set it up.

2010-09-02 09:25:32 PM
I'll be there dressed as the guy who has bathed recently and exercises regularly.

I'll most likely have a Fark headline shirt on. That's about all the costume I can handle...
