Share the road is a two way street!

probably becasue he was riding like a complete jackass and not following the traffic laws like every other biker out there...

He was probably 3 feet of the farking embankment making all the cars slow down and go around him while also trying not to have a head on collosion.

Take your bike to a farking BIKE TRAIL shiatHEAD.

I always wanted to start a 2nd amendment bike ride called Pack n' Ride. We'd use the sign they put on the Park n' Ride lots, only with a gun and a bike instead of a bus and a car. And this sort of thing would be a lot less likely to happen there.

when bicycles are taxed then they'll have a right to the road. Until then, stay out of my way....

real shaman: when bicycles are taxed then they'll have a right to the road. Until then, stay out of my way....

I own a car and a bike, so I pay all the car ownership taxes you do.
I don't pay as many gas taxes, but I also don't cause as much wear and tear as a 2 ton SUV.

How about we stop taxing anybody, stop maintaining the roads, and I'll just ride my mountain bike?

Last Friday.. 6pm, high traffic time in a high traffic area. Cyclist in the far right lane (of 3 southbound lanes), going maybe 25.. in a 45mph zone. Causing all kinds of issues. This lasted for the better part of a half mile, until some good citizen had the idea to run this moron off the road and up onto the sidewalk.

No bike lane on this road and this ass was taking up an entire lane, and going too slow. These are the idiots you smart cyclists need to slap around. Thanks.

You can share the road when you're keeping up with the flow of traffic. Otherwise, fark off.

Kind of like how you're using hyperbole like every other idiot out there?

They were showing their spirit for the event. Not only were they trying to share the road, they were trying to share that exact spot on the road.

I always admired cyclists... it must take a lot of ball to ride competitively...

Cyclists are a lot like Muslims. A few spectacularly assholish ones ruin it for the rest of them. (Also the ones that are really, really into it wear stupid clothes and smell bad.)

I'm very pro-cyclist and I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of licensing / training requirement before riding public roads.

Around here they do in fact ticket cyclists for breaking road laws (many simply don't know that they must follow the same rules as other vehicles), but the ticket can be dismissed by taking a defensive cycling class.

It does amaze me sometimes, last week I nearly hit a guy who passed me on the right just as I was turning right into an intersection. Even had my blinker on. Then he rode straight on through the red light. Death wish...

is this the weekly thread where drivers who deal with idiot cyclists in rural areas and cyclists who deal with idiot drivers in city areas argue about how what idiots the other side is?

Good.

I actually thought the last one ended rather well so remember folks. This is fark, we have standards to be met. If this thread is not a mass of internet rage and retardation within an hour we are doing something wrong.

This is why I hug the curb and ride on the sidwalks whenever possible.

/only ride after 10pm and at 5am to and from work on the weekends. So no whining about pedestrians.

Many cities don't have bike lanes, so I sort of understand.

On the other hand, bicyclists who don't follow the rules of the road are REALLY annoying.

I am always amazed at the amount of hatred directed at cyclists by drivers.

It's absurd. So, you have to slow your hermetically sealed rolling bubble for a minute. You're still going to get where you're going about ten times faster than the cyclist. You will do that while wasting tons of resources, polluting, and becoming more and more fat and out of shape.

QQ.

There's a bike path parallel to the main commute artery I take every day and yet there's always 3 or 4 cyclists who continue to ride on the edge of the road with cars going in excess of 60mph.

It boggles the mind they don't just use the nicely paved 2 lane bike path 20' out the path of possible death.

They're called cars. It's what 99% of the civilized world uses to get around. Stay out of their way, please, and sit in the park and ponder a kinder and gentler time.

Hey, if you are stupid enough to believe your 10 speed is on equal footing with a soccer mom with 5 kids in her SUV, I'm all for Darwin proving a painful life lesson to you. Biking on roads where you can't keep up with the flow of automobile traffic is a hazard for everybody involved.

Now, while I don't want cyclist hurt, they have to realize thathow they have as much right to the road also conveys the same risks. There are accidents of the roadways, as people make mistakes. If you want to use the roads, you have to realize you may be involved in an accident. And the bike wont protect you nearly as much as a car will, so there is a very good chance your going to get messed up.

Kinda like you have a right to say anything you want without someone punching you in the face. Doesn't mean someone wont punch you in the face.

complete stop is a different case than ignoring them.
I don't blow through them all the way. If another car has the right of way or was there first, I let them pass. If it's a close call, I stop completely and wave the person through to get it over with quickly, without some "you goin? na im goin..op..saw you move...ok i'll g..no you go"

I have NO issue with the idea of cycling.. hell, I'm all for working out in whatever capacity..just do it safely and with others in mind.

TheDirtyNacho: Around here they do in fact ticket cyclists for breaking road laws

I've seen these same guys blow through lights as well, and generally act as if they get every road privilege and don't have to obey any of the laws.. it's scary.
Also, here in Colorado, we have an assload of cyclists.. we have to have more than most states-especially true on the Air Force Academy.

real shaman: when bicycles are taxed then they'll have a right to the road. Until then, stay out of my way....

For local roads, only 10-15% of the funding comes from gas taxes. State roads are closer to 50%, and interstate highways are nearly 95%. So guess what, the bicyclists probably paid just as much for those roads as you.

Right. My job as a cyclist is to be as visible and predictable and courteous a rider as possible and therefore stay alive.

But then the analogy breaks down. If I'm being courteous, then you're a jerk for punching me in the face.

It's a hazard. One idiot on a bike risks the lives of everybody who has to get pass him. Risks them getting hit from behind by drivers who don't see them when you slow suddenly, risk by all the drives having to swerve into on coming traffic to get around you, risk from all the other driving hazards you miss because you are so busy trying not to hit the idiot on the bike.

So basically he was obeying the law (bikes can share the road with cars, as long as it's not a highway with posted engine size/horsepower requirements) and is illegally forced to ride on a sidewalk, which depending on the local laws, could also be illegal.

Sounds about right.
