(Spinner) Cool Robert Plant admits he's no longer a fan of the hard rock he played with Led Zeppelin, and he perfers to focus on the world/country/blues music he's played for the last several years. And we should be okay with that   (spinner.com) divider line 56

He's earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants.

And get off his lawn.

As sick as I am of Stairway to Heaven, I can only imagine how he feels about it.

2010-08-31 10:29:33 AM
Yes I am ok with it, in fact I love it. His new cover of Los Lobos' Angel Dance is epic goodness

Raising Sand is one of my favorite albums of the last 10 years so I can live with that.

Well, yeah, it is.

As you will find out if your self-awareness kicks in by the time you get to Plant's age.

2010-08-31 10:56:43 AM
How dare he allow his to music to change and evolve over 40+ years!!!! I am so outraged, I think I will write a letter.

The Englishman is the greatest thief of American Black music?!

PLEASE! Elvis has him beat by a mile!!

USA! USA! USA!

Good for you, Percy. I know I don't listen to the same music I listened to 30 years ago, either. He's earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants.

2010-08-31 11:07:34 AM
I'm with ya, Robert. I like your solo stuff better, truth be told.

HappyHarryHardOn: translation: I can't hit the high notes anymore

Well, it's better that he acknowledges it rather than going out and acting like a fool.

Not a big fan of what he's doing now, but then again, I was never a big fan of Led Zepplin either.

2010-08-31 11:16:53 AM
Whatever overwrought but sterile music you want to make is fine with me.

2010-08-31 11:37:18 AM
Robert Plant is really old and hasn't done anything worthwhile in a long long time. Who the fark cares what he likes?

Blues_X: He's earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants.

guit-tard: Good for you, Percy. I know I don't listen to the same music I listened to 30 years ago, either. He's earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants.

false. that's called resting on your laurels. if the audience isn't pleased, it isn't pleased. if you wife isn't getting off, you can't remind her how great you were in the 70s.

2010-08-31 11:59:05 AM
I don't care what music he is into or what he plays. I just won't listen. It does bother me when he does some wimped-out country-fied version of some Zeppelin rocker.

He did "Black Dog" with Alison Krauss and I wanted to jump into the TV and kick him in the nuts.

Raping my childhood and all that.

2010-08-31 12:24:56 PM
but the version of The Battle of Evermore with Krauss is epic

/YOU should be kicked in the nuts

Last week on dime, I dl'ed part 1 of the Katz Eye version of the zep O2 show from last year. It's too bad there are no seeders for part two, still waiting. I heard rumors about how great the band sounded, but I was skeptical after seeing Page and Plant in '98 or '99 where they were horrible.
However, after watching part one over the weekend, I was BLOWN AWAY. They sounded excellent. Great set list and jimmy sounded better than he has in a long time.
People have been saying the reason Plant wont tour with the rest of the band is because he blew out his voice. I believe what he says in TFA because he still can sing his ass off on the old zep tunes.

Mighty Rearranger isn't that old and it rocks. Probably the best post-Zep, Zep-like music ever.

goodbomb: that's called resting on your laurels. if the audience isn't pleased, it isn't pleased.

No... making new music isn't resting on your laurels. See: Raising Sand.

Playing the same old shiat at casinos and amusement parks is resting on your laurels. See: Ted Nugent.

WHO CARES??????

2010-08-31 03:10:52 PM
At a record store (amoeba) that i worked at two years ago, jimmy page came in and bought some blues, oldies and soul. I wondered how he could still be into that stuff after 45+ years. Assuming he was buying them for himself.

2010-08-31 04:22:16 PM
I have absolutely no problem with this. The 'Unledded' set was probably the finest expression of the Zep work that will ever be, and it is good that he knows it.

His work since has been very, very good.

2010-08-31 04:58:42 PM
people complaining about Paige or Elvis being "thieves" would never have heard og these songs in the first place if they hadn't been "stolen" and wouldn't have the sanctimonious honor to complain about it either

HappyHarryHardOn: translation: I can't hit the high notes anymore

He was having trouble with the high notes when I saw them on the Physical Graffiti tour.

/glad he's able to let it go gracefully

Walked thru wal-mart this evening waiting for a new car battery and noticed that HALF THE TOYS play wailing demonic hardass heavily metal black doggy type stick your tongue out and make the devil sign with your fingers rock music.

THEREFORE...

The thrill, like my old battery, it's pretty much spent.

In response to Elmer PhD.

I miss being in middle school and thinking Led Zep and others were evil, scary, demonic, forbidden, and beautiful. Now even the heaviest music get's sucked into car commercial land.

Probably one of the most "WTF" musical direction changes in history.
In interviews, Blackmore won't even talk about Deep Purple or Rainbow. Sad.

babysealclubber: How dare he allow his to music to change and evolve over 40+ years!!!! I am so outraged, I think I will write a letter.

He's actually been a solo act two and a half times LONGER than his entire tenure in Led Zeppelin. He should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame based on his solo work.

/yes, I know he's in already as a member of Zep
//but by God, recognize his solo work!

Good. Let songs of virility and youth played by the verile and young. Not 60 something men with beer guts and 4 belts to keep their pants covering up their flat, flabby old British white man ass. I can think of nothing more wrist-slashingly depressing than watching Plant have a loose bowel incident while wailing the opening yelps of Immigrant Song because he forgot to take his Metamucil that morning.

2010-09-01 05:55:33 AM
Love Zep, but Plant's work with Alison Krauss is really good, too.

2010-09-01 08:38:42 AM
Meh, this is just how Plant feels this week. After this tour when he's been sitting around at home for a month, don't be shocked when he wants to do another rock record.

Remonds me of Neil Young in the early 80's. He goes all new wave on "Trans" and declares this is his new direction. Then he makes a doo wop record and declares it his new passion. Then a country record called "Old Ways' and says he has left rock behind. He finally gets Crazy Horse back on the road and all is well again.

Plant is promoting his current product. Nothing more, nothing less.

2010-09-01 10:25:29 AM
Good for Plant. I think it's admirable he's not rehashing the same old stuff (though I am a big fan of Zeppelin, too.) and going with his muse. More musicians should follow his example & do what they want. Music would be a lot more interesting for it.

My musical tastes have evolved quite a lot since I was a kid, too. I listened to mostly classic rock stuff when I was a kid. Now I'm 41 & still listen to some of the old classics, but I'm now more into stuff like Black Joe Lewis, Pere Ubu, the Pop Group, Gang Of Four, Hound Dog Taylor, James Cotton, Scott Walker, Stan Ridgway, Webb Wilder, and tons of jazz artists just to name a few.

Evolving taste is a good thing.
