Good choice subby, but I'd have chosen this. Link (new window)

Or this, closing out a cute little movie called The Matchmaker Link (new window)

btw, if you like Father Ted or The IT Crowd, you'll like this film. They're all written by Graham Linehan

Mick Ronson FTW

Thanks for that. Was wondering how he could have released Astral Weeks when he was forteen.

Thanks for the increasingly rare hot-Janeane-Garofalo sighting.

Was it commonplace in the 70s to just mill around for awhile with no clear direction of what to do?

farkstorm: Mick Ronson FTW

No kidding. It's been a long time since I've heard any of his stuff. He's sadly forgotten.

/thanks, subby

I love Van Morrison, but the man is a giant ass and an ego-maniac. Just visit his website, www.vanmorrison.com if you need any further proof

No matter what other say,
go you own way.
And practice with people.

/And this is Van Morrison's best.

Yup. A great performer and wonderful writer and a man you would not want to have over for a beer.

Devolving_Spud: I never understood all the love for VM.

He writes and performs really awesome songs. I think that's pretty much the basis for the love.

Plus he picks seriously awesome musicians for his band. The horn section on "And It Stoned Me" is proof positive of that.

Them were good.

Good English has went.

He's mind boggingly inconsistent but when it all comes together he has produced some of the greatest music of the last 100 years.

Check out the by-god-we-are-kicking-some-ASS-here faces on every single guy on that stage. WIN all over.

So whose actually seen a recent Van Morrison show. Recently caught him at the Edmonton Folk Fest and I gotta say I haven't seen a more lackluster performance. I get it that he's old and can't perform like he used to, but the guy didn't even acknowledge the crowd, not a word once. Although I guess I'm the sucker for paying the extra 80 bucks to see the tired old has been.

This never fails to make me sad -

Link (new window)

reading the lyrics off of a dirty napkin and trying to hide it from the camera/audience. Only song he did all night, featured guest, and he couldn't be bothered to learn it...

I was watching The Last Waltz with some friends in college when Van Morrison came on, and my roommate said "Thank God for rock and roll music, cause without it we may never have known that this huge voice was in that dumpy little Irishman."

/Purple Elvis jumpsuit? Really?

Van's been consistent his entire career.
Hates the press
Hates fame
Writes wonderful music
Has a great voice
Changes genres and bands often
Doesn't give a tinker's cuss what you like or don't like
He is definitely ornery and isn't looking to connect with the audience, just the band. Come along for the ride and you can experience something special.
That said, he hasn't been pushing himself to his own standards of late and that leads to some ordinary gigs. Too bad because I've been to a lot over the years and most of them were very special

Yes. The drugs were much better back then.

Indeed, maybe the high point of the whole show. Nice suit too, Van.

Astral Weeks is pretty special.

Check out "Cypress Avenue" just for starters.

Ronson Rickenbacker?

Oh man...it's a good thing I didn't think of that during the "emergency naming session". We were told the baby was a girl up to the last ultrasound...one week before he was born. Only then did he whip it out and say "Look at this". Shiat. So, after getting shot down on Ace, we settled on Mick. I was in a big Mick Ronson funk at the time, listening to Heaven and Hull, Ronson's last solo album.
