This just in from Lars:"My agent says that I should be getting royalties for every song used in the interogation! Someone is going to PAY!!!!! Now if we count all the U.S. soldiers doing the interogating and all the Iraqis listening to the music during the interogations and get $0.03 per song that should be somewhere near 2.6 MILLION dollars!! I wonder if I just bill the pentagon or the whitehouse too????"

Just outta curiosity for those out there who do like Metallica, whats your favorite song?

One

Another FARK bash session... glad I could see it. Too bad I like Metallica and Lars isn't really whining...

It being Friday afternoon and me going to happy hour by myself, I want to buy a beer for a stranger.

Here's to you, mister headline-fixer-man. You remove the unneeded apostrophe so the headline make sense. Thanks, mister headline-fixer-man. This Bud's for you.

and you and you and you

Avery2:

Glad to see that you got the same feeling from the article that I did. He wasn't whining that they were using his music (ala Napster style whining). He was just saying he was sad that they were using his music to get the folks to talk.

Mw451: Hah! Motorhead.. some good tunes but DAMN are they not the ugliest band of all time? Right down there with the comically misnamed Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

2003-06-13 04:11:17 PM
Greenlights: Too many to choose from. Master of Puppets and Orion are probably tied for my favorite.

2003-06-13 04:12:19 PM
Correction Ladodger34;

Lars said there wasn't anything he could do about it. He was whining, and if he could do something about it, he would.

2003-06-13 04:12:38 PM
Orion is a great song, but I think its very similar to One, just with great lyrics (and video) on top. But definetly good choices

123Repeater: I'm not going to say that couldn't have afforded to go with out money from a couple of songs, but honestly if I had a sweet new album out and that hadn't hit the big time yet, I would probably care about it simply on principal. If you give someone a copy of a cd because you want them to hear it there is a lot difference from them taking the cd, making a copy, then giving the cd back so they can listen to a copy of it. The point I'm really trying to get at is the people took their music and didn't ask, the band has said that all live boot legs of the concerts and such are welcome to be swapped around and traded over the internet showing that the band isn't entirely cruel and heartless.

Green1ights-

Master of Puppets, although I don't listen to those guys much anymore.

2003-06-13 04:14:03 PM
Ladodger34

Right on. Everyone has this image of who Lars is, but the past year or so, he's been very humorous and humble... not whiny at all.

fark metalica and what they did to napster. farking hypocrite white-man puppets

2003-06-13 04:14:31 PM
Also, Fade To Black no matter how much I love One and playing the solo to it.

2003-06-13 04:15:46 PM
You can play that solo Nutsack?? Thats amazing, I've been playing two years and i cant get 4 notes into without giving up in shock at the talent of Kirk Hammet.

2003-06-13 04:16:21 PM
Psylence: Yeah, they'd just have to play "The Ace of Spades" maybe 5-10 times, and all the Iraqis would be talking.

2003-06-13 04:16:47 PM
It can really be summed up easily.

Metallica + Cliff Burton = Time tested true Metal

Metallica - Cliff Burton = Suck It Trebek

/I'm out

2003-06-13 04:17:05 PM
NutSack: They also released 3 full-length concerts (in mp3 format) from their own collection with the new album via the MetallicaVault site. They encourage you to do whatever you want with those songs. Pretty cool, I say...

2003-06-13 04:17:16 PM
I think the coolest thing Metallica has ever put out was Cliff Burton's bass solo on Anesthesia/Pulling Teeth. Its a shame they are now a bunch of Circle Jerking Biatches.

2003-06-13 04:18:01 PM
Metallica....WND...Weapon of Napster Destruction.....or reversed...Napster..WMD..Weapon of Metallica Destruction...

2003-06-13 04:19:03 PM
Green1ights:

Maybe you can take lessons from Joe Satriani like Kirk did during the recording... Satriani helped him write most of his solos up until Bob Rock started producing them...

2003-06-13 04:19:47 PM
Green1ights, go grab this program called powertab. http://www.power-tab.net/
and the tabs at http://www.powertabs.net. Bad ass program the plays the notes for the songs and hi-lights what note is currently being played. Also prints out really nice sheet music. Also the only part to that song I still think is so god damn hard are the minor thirds, the rest you can get if you practice it like mad.

2003-06-13 04:20:40 PM
Haha, thanks Xj14y for the advice, I wish! But thanks for that tidbit of info that I didn't know.

2003-06-13 04:21:04 PM
Allright. Metallica's first 4 albums were some of the best rock music ever recorded. None of Lars' stupid statements or Napster can take that away. They've been inconsistent since that time, but anyone who disses the first four albums doesn't understand rock music.

2003-06-13 04:21:11 PM
Greenlights: Creeping Death followed closely by Master of Puppets.

2003-06-13 04:22:26 PM
You Guys!
Couple things:
Metallica has ALWAYS rocked and always WILL, if you dont like it, you're just old.
And DrainSTH rock as hard as they look good.

2003-06-13 04:22:47 PM
Wow, thanks a lot, Nutsack that sounds awesome.

2003-06-13 04:22:58 PM
I hate your favorite band.

2003-06-13 04:23:34 PM
xj14y, a side note about the solos. The solo for the Unforgiven on the black album was written on the spot while recording the song in the studio, Kirk and the rest of the band liked it so they kept it. He says it took him a little while to listen to what he played over and over to write it down note for note. I have the whole interview about it in a guitar world some where.

2003-06-13 04:23:39 PM
Xj14y: False. Satriani was only Kirk's teacher for a short time in the early 80's. He never helped him write solos for Metallica.

2003-06-13 04:23:52 PM
I hope they're playing No Remorse for them good and loud. That's the right message.

Am I evil? Yes I am.

More proof that anyone and everyone on a FARK forum only posts if they hate something.

Well, except me.

DeathCubeK: DrainSTH was awesome and HOT. Too bad they're not around anymore... well, at least not as Drain.

Green1ights:

But he was in good company. Satriani gave lessons to Steve Vai as well. But I like Satch's style. Ever since I saw him with Stu Hamm and Greg Bissonette, I've been hooked.

He can shred, but it's basically pop tunes. Every once in a while he'll throw a curve, but song structure and production wise, it's very "poppy" type music. It has a chorus, sometimes a bridge, and the parts are identifiable.

At a minumum, his stuff could be used for soundtracks. Put lyrics on them, and you would have a song. With a hell of a guitar solo.

2003-06-13 04:26:22 PM
Anyone have suggestions for metal bands that DON'T suck? If you reccognize my handle you know my style.

2003-06-13 04:26:30 PM
LARS ULRICH CAN EAT MY ASS. MAYBE IF SOMEONE GAVE HIM A PACIFIER HE'D STOP WHINING LIKE A LITTLE biatch ALL THE TIME. HE'S NOT EVEN A GREAT DRUMMER.

Wait a minute, I was wrong. He didn't play with Bissonette and Hamm at the same time. Brain fart. One time I saw him with Stu on bass, and another time w Bissonette on drums.

My bad.

But I could have sworn that Satch was involved in the preproduction of the first album. I'm almost sure I read that somewhere....

2003-06-13 04:30:36 PM
Yeah, this nothing inherintly wrong with pop music, because anything can be pop, as long as it's POPular. So I havent lost any respect for him

2003-06-13 04:30:47 PM
Like mind, Prizrak.

2003-06-13 04:33:37 PM
Y'know, it's amazing that after 20 years that a band as "irrelevant" and "washed up" as you claim MetallicA to be can still generate SO much debate. Most farkers here will bash the band and that's fine. Whether it's because they're still stuck in the 80's and want Master Of Puppets pt.8 or they had their precious Napster taken away, SOMEONE will always find a reason to bash the band. If it weren't for these guys, a lot of us wouldn't be listening to bands like In Flames, Soilwork, or Strapping Young Lad. Get over it people, the 80's ended long ago and they wanted to have a say in how their music is given out. BTW, St. Anger is better than what people give it credit for. Try listening to it with a more open mind and not expecting the next "great" epic metal masterpiece. There, I've said it. Bring on the boobies.

Great post, Godiluvbeer. Everything you said is true, simple.

What, its ok to punish americans with that shiate but not iraqis?

I grew up hearing freakin justice for all and ride the lightning on a daily freakin basis and im freakin ready to go postal on the next asshat who plays it in my vicinity.

that being said though, the first few minutes of "Fade to black" do kick some serious ass.

It is obvious that Lars is being a whiny little biatch because he just heard "St. Anger" and realized that it sucks hairy choad. It should be used as a WMD because it is intolerable.

2003-06-13 04:40:19 PM
Metallica should just be glad that anyone plays their shiatty noise under any circumstances.

2003-06-13 04:41:30 PM
If Metallica were a real metal band they would be happy that their music was used to scare the hell out of people. Isn't that the whole point of the genre? I'm not so sure about Venom, but some Norwegian black metal --Burzum, Immortal, Emperor and Darkthrone-- would do the trick.

Zerochance Have you heard the new disc from The Haunted? The band features two ex-At the Gates members, it's pretty deadly.
