Thank you for that correction. One could add "multi-talented" but you hit the important points.

Wiedlin never did anything for me, but she is very talented. I like me some curves on my women.

MeinRS6: I like Carlisle's voice, but the band is a joke.

The go-go's are more talented than your band, I am sure, and WAY more successful.

but I bet his all-girl bands are vinyl only and play shows of 34 or less not counting their parents. the True Kvlt of girl bands.

I think you meant to write: "(bonus: with the hot, young, constantly singing flat and sounding like sh*t Belinda Carlisle)"

Dear gawd, woman, did they not turn on the monitors in the '80s?

Marla Singer's Laundry: They're horrible.

That's pretty much the point of a punk band. You get ripped, you get on stage, you do your thing.

Belinda Carlisle is fun to look at, but she sings so out of tune on this clip that it is unwatchable.

Punk band? HAhahahahahahaha.

Christ almighty.

As difficult as it is to wrap the brain around in 2010 (and it is), the fact remains that the group's origins resided within the L.A. punk scene of the late 1970s. Some of their very first live gigs (pre-record deal) saw them opening for X (I crap you negative).

Never liked them much musically but there you are.

In other news:

Jane Wiedlin is coming out with a new album. She is covering Devo's "Whip It".

The same can be said of a lot of 80s pop acts, though. They had punk origins until a label exec came along, prettied them up and helped them crank out some sellout pop music with slight punk undertones, classified as "new wave."

DarKrow: It's better live.

Subby's clip is also live and it's before Belinda Carlisle discovered junk food.

She obviously pounded those drums, but when I saw them in 1984 there was a second band behind a curtain playing the actual instruments.
That said, I like those Go-Go's. They have a lot of pep.

It's a scan, and they're all hotlinked from GIS results.

My favorite picture from that spread was of her in a hot tub looking up at the camera, but I couldn't find any scans of that in Google.

It wasn't a troll. She's got an interesting voice, but what that band is banging out is pathetic - even for that time period. There were good bands at that time and this was not one of them - as far as musical talent goes. They had great commercial appeal though.

See, Farkers, there is a reason that I have Marla Singer's Reeking Taint on Ignore.

That said, I would have loved to have been in a cocaine and alcohol-fueled naked pile with the Go-Go's back in the 80's, with Jane and Belinda's asses alternating on my face.

I saw them play at some party in the Hollywood Hills in 79 or 80. They were brought there by Rodney Bingenheimer. I thought to myself. "Huh. who are these chicks?" They were pretty good. Then when their record came out I was surprised as to how sweetened and toned down it was.

When I saw them at that party, they were raw and rocked. Rodney used to play a demo of We Got the Beat on his radio show and it was much more raw than the released version. Still they were a fun power pop band.

There was another semi-girl band around at the same time called The Heaters. I remember liking them. They "bounced." Unfortunately their record didn't capture the energy they had on stage.

I haven't thought about it in a long time, but that late 70s early 80s music scene in L.A. was pretty good.

Saw them live in......'82 or '83 or so.......... with A Flock Of Seagulls. Was down on the floor....... Gina really DID pound those skins, song after song. Her energy was like Max Weinberg's son's, touring with Bruce last year. Not bad.

2010-09-01 09:53:29 PM
Marla Singer's Laundry: Either that or some record-company prick got a 6-way with an entire band some time around 1980.

That's possible. According to rampant rumors, and some admissions by band members, they were pretty wild.
