i've never heard a concept that so completely covers the spectrum from "this could be the coolest thing ever" to "jesus this could be worse than swap.avi"

I absolutely love that song.

It's a thinly-veiled recounting of his entire career and his changing relationships with his fans.

I could be wrong, but that's what art is all about.

"the only thing we knew for sure about harry porter is that his name wasn't harry porter" does sound vaguely familiar...

Meh. Let me know when someone makes Lily, Rosemary, and The Jack Of Hearts into a movie.

Now that would be amazing.

And quite possibly impossible, as the story is a lot like the thriller the twin in Adaptation writes: the main character is the killer and the police officer tracking him down and the next victim: the Jack of Hearts is most of the male characters in the song (except the Hanging Judge), but the motivation is never explained.

Over the last couple of decades, a number of writers have tried to adapt "Tangled Up in Blue" which is a more straightforward story, but all have failed, as the song covers more time and more experience than a movie ever could.

Oh also: I'll be okay with a movie version of "Brownsville Girl" so long as the water moccasin dies halfway through.

The Jack of Hearts is one person. I've heard that song hundreds of times and just reread it again. I'm not quite sure where you get that idea.
There are The Jack of Hearts, Big Jim, The Hanging Judge, Rosemary, Lily, the Backstage Manager and the boys who drilled through the wall. Please fill me in.

I haven't listened to that song in years, but I remember thinking it sucked, like basically everything else on that album.

I can't make any sense out of that sentence at all. But yeah, the Jack of hearts is one guy. And he doesn't kill anyone in the course of the song. And plays have been made from it, apparently.

i don't think it's fair to the complexity and intentional evasiveness of that song to state so bluntly what is clearly just one of many interpretations.

"Frankie Lee and Judas Priest" would make a good movie.

"Rainy Day Women #12 and #35" has already been done.

mrmyxolodian: The Jack of Hearts is one person.

Indeed, but he's also the "leading actor", and I think there's an argument to be made that he's also Big Jim; Dylan was really into Rimbaud (who gets name-checked at least once on the album) while he was making Blood on the Tracks, which means that things don't actually have to make sense as the song is functioning under dream logic.

When I listen to the song, the male characters and female characters tend to run together, Lily is Rosemary and hell maybe the guys is Big Jim and the Hanging Judge, too. After all there's no actor better....

You know which song would make a good motive that would make sense? Isis.
