If more cops were like him, Baltimore would be a safer place.

Good. How close he was to retirement should have no bearing at all on whether or not he receives appropriate punishment for his actions.

You know, it occurs to me that these cops one year away from retirement should defer to desk jobs, because seriously, that's when they get ya. It's never "oh, it was officer frank's first day when he got shot". No, they have to make it dramatic by killing them off when they're just about home safe..

You'd might have no fear of 14 year olds riding skateboards, but you'd have plenty to fear from guys with guns who can (usually) hide behind a badge.

I'm going to guess that this won't be the last we've heard of this case. The union is already going to appeal and this case will likely get tied up in court.

RobertBruce: /the assholes are highway patrol

This. MD state troopers are the shortest guys ever put behind the wheel in police cars, and they've all got chips on their shoulders bigger than they are. I've hated the 12 miles of I-81 that goes through Maryland simply because of these idiots.

Got pulled over once because the MD trooper said my "wiper blades weren't working correctly." What? It was on "intermittent" and it was fog, not rain. A nice 10-minute pit stop while he called in my license, registration, shone his flashlight in my back seat, and walked around the car. One damn mile from the Potomac River bridge and the joy of West Virginia and its 70 mph speed limit. No ticket, just an inspection of papers, citizen.

Rivieri is appealing the case. Bob Cherry, head of the Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police, said Wednesday that the union is outraged by the firing. Cherry said the officers in the FOP have supported Rivieri's actions.

Because being a violent, loudmouth bully is considered a perk.

I usually speak out in Fark cop-bashing threads™ because it's a bunch of girls whining about cops on a power trip. This case, however is exactly that. I'm glad the fat geek who got picked on high school and took it out on little kids got reprimanded and lost everything. This dipshiat was way out of line, and is a bad representation of police officers.

2010-08-30 04:47:29 AM
Earlier this month, the city police trial board dismissed the most serious charges against him but found him guilty of failure to submit a police report and recommended a six-day suspension without pay;

Wow. It's almost as if the police are trying to live up to the stereotype.

Friskya: Good. How close he was to retirement should have no bearing at all on whether or not he receives appropriate punishment for his actions.

Sort of. If it was borderline, they should err on the side of firing in this case, given that if he didn't get fired, he'd draw a pension effectively fraudulently for the rest of his life. For every time an officer gets caught, there's prolly ten or so incidents where they should have been caught, but weren't

about 20 years ago the police, feds, and federal officers used to target skateboarders in freedom plaza, little kids like this, and beat them down for shiats and giggles. they did this for a few years, and no one seemed to mind until i was skating one night and they threatened me. then we set a few of them up and hospitalized them. they stopped beating little kids down for a while in that area. fark the police.

Foot patrol? If you watch the video you can see his b!chin' cruiser when he walks toward the skateboarders. That thing is like some sort of super-cruiser or something, man. Golf carts ain't got nothin' on that thing.

This reminds me of the time we were riding dinosaurs down on the mall. I ride a dinosaur a lot because I'm a ninja, and ninjas are the most bad ass of all mammals, so we can only ride the most bad-ass of all reptiles -- the dinosaur.

Anyhow, we're riding dinosaurs and we see our nemesis, the pirates riding polar bears. We totally flipped out and we killed them. Did I mention I'm a ninja? Ninjas are awesome.

Anyhow, we should hang out some time, because we're totally alike, you and me. I sometimes flip out on pirates riding polar bears, and you sometimes flip out on cops. And, it totally happens for real.

2010-08-30 05:07:54 AM
This is the first good news about police misconduct that I've heard in a long time. That cop was *way* out of line.

A guy in shorts and a polo too small to fit comfortably around his fat gut is worried about "respect" and being called "dude?"

Rivieri and his Fraternal Order of Police asshole brothers should all be farking canned for disrespecting the badge. Cops like this hurt everyone, cops included.

2010-08-30 05:09:49 AM
No way should he have grabbed the kid and threw him to the ground. The kid was not violent. Physically subduing the kid for his skateboard? WTF?

Damn right he should have been fired.

/by the way, he looks like a freakin meter maid in that uniform.

Cop deserved to be fired. The trial board should be held in contempt... Farked thing was the poll that right now says people don't think the pig should be fired.

namatad: and people are SHOCKED that cops want to ban effective have banned videotaping cops.

IIRC, Maryland now requires consent from all parties for any recording to be legal -- yes, even in public. The cops don't want their shenanigans to be taped? Then you're breaking the law if you do that. Stupid law is stupid.

2010-08-30 05:25:11 AM
... that cop doesn't wear the pants at home and he wears short-pants at work. What a bad-ass douche bag.

2010-08-30 05:25:38 AM
Way out of line. Being a total, abusive douchebag while at the same time demanding respect. Screw that lame excuse for a cop, he deserves his career to be over for losing his shiat on a 14 year old kid like that. I support the police and half my family and loved ones are in military or police service, and I'm a constant supporter. But that outburst was completely unacceptable. It's like he was having a heart attack or something. His own daddy issues from way back just came rushing to the surface. Hey there ex-officer, are you reading this thread now that you're unemployed? I hope so. You asked for it and you got it, tough guy. You got farked, and you deserve it. Now learn some respect.

And this is why I have a problem with unions like that. They defend people for crap that should not be defended. They exist solely to protect people, even if those people do crazy crap that means they shouldn't be protected. He assaulted a kid for talking like a kid. The guy obviously has some anger issues and shouldn't be allowed to wear a badge if he can't control himself.

Defending this man just shows that unions defending someones actions mean nothing.

Seriously? You're a cop on the urban streets and you don't understand that "dude" is a harmless term especially coming from a teenager? You wrestle him into a fearful submission while you refer to farm hands? You are completely out of touch with the city, and you are about to have a farking heart attack. Take some time off and deal with your issues. How dare you use your authority to go off on a kid who is probably just trying to escape an already abusive home life. You pathetic, suck, abusive piece of shiat. You give every police force a bad rap. Go hang your head in shame. Go join a BDSM dungeon and learn to suck dick and call someone daddy. Whatever it takes to deal with your stupid issues before you die.
