That's not true. Lots of people benefited. Haliburton, Blackwater, DyneCorp, Triple Canopy, KBR, BP, Exxon-Mobil, Chevron, Shell, Total, Betchel...

Yeah and you can't put a price on free-DUM!

Just another example of Iraq HUSSEIN Falalalalujahbama's failed stimulus package.

Not just wasted, but fabulously wasted

Ok, so wasting billions, probably hundreds of billions of dollars ISN'T crazier than the TEA Party?

No shiat.

I've always wondered what America would be like now if all of that money was put into transparent border security - the kind that doesn't involve a cavity search to board an airplane.

2010-08-29 10:39:54 PM
This is a surprise? We've known about exorbitant sums of money being flushed down the toilet there, for years.

The Iraqi war seems to be boiling down to a) oil and b) a way to funnel taxpayer money to Bush admin cronies. How come Tea Party types don't yell and scream about their money being taken away and given to Halliburton execs?

What's stupid is that the author confuses billions with trillions.

Wasting money rebuilding other countries is the highest form of patriotic.

No, it's trying to pass the buck. Obama has continued it, but the bulk of the waste is Bush projects. It's a transparent attempt to blame him for it all.

//How many "non-combat" troops are still there?

Or if we spent on the money that we've spent on Iraq on say ... alternative fuel sources. Or better infrastructure for this country. Or better public transit everywhere.

Seriously, we send thousands to die over there, they kill tens of thousands, and yet we're still ok with some of the biggest donations to politicians being oil companies?

Obama wasting money on stimulus OUTRAGE!!!

Oh forget all that money Bushed wasted...

2010-08-29 11:04:08 PM
Didn't help that our post invasion plans were apparently actually predicated on the "greeted as liberators" idiocy. Shot ourselves in the foot from the get-go. Widespread looting and the complete dissolution of the baathists with no apparent strategy to protect and maintain critical infrastructure and institutions. Plus, I'm pretty sure the war planners honestly didn't know that Shias and Sunnis were different sects with deep-seated enmities. We suck at nation-building.

2010-08-29 11:04:14 PM
Yeah, you tend to waste a lot of money when the people on whom you are spending it only want to blow up what you've built.

I'd just be happy if we could find the billions "misplaced" by Bremer, the Pentagon, and so on. We keep screaming that we have no money for our domestic infrastructure, yet we actually "misplaced" $8,800 million - in some cases, we wrote multiple-million-dollar Treasury checks to contractors without a single scrap of evidence as to the purpose of the check. We handed out hundreds of millions of dollars, in cash, to Iraqi ministries, warlords, and so on, again with nothing more than, at best, a signature to explain for what this money was to be used.

No, ALL of the waste is Bush projects. ALL of it. When they sent in the "Coalition Provisional Authority" made up of Paul "Jerry" Bremer and his corps of twentysomething Heritage Foundation-approved MBA grads with no experience in running a toilet, much less an occupied country...THAT'S where all the money was wasted.

There are stories, confirmed by the dingalings who were doing it, of the kids at the CPA tossing around shrink-wrapped bundles of cash, playing football with thousands of taxpayer dollars in their neat little offices, because they didn't have the first idea where it was supposed to go, or what they were expected to do with it.

Any money lost since then was lost simply because the foundation was never there to begin with. Like those apartments in China, that were ten stories tall but had two-foot foundations, they just fell over as a unit. Well, the US never bothered to lay any foundations in Iraq in 2003-4, so all the money since went into building a huge tall tower...that collapsed into the dust. And it is 100% Bush's fault, him and his cronies that "don't do nation-building." All Obama could be expected to do was calculate the loss.

I guess all those Democrat votes magically don't count either. Do you ever look at the votes of both parties, or just regurgitate your talking points?

Iraq: Thank you for the multi-billion dollars in aid money. With the billions we make off oil sales we can take your billions and...blow it all on hats.

Well it was about time we created a new set of multi-billionaires. I mean, you didn't think the rich in this country actually worked hard for it do you.

I'm told the piles of flowers the grateful natives threw at us were boxed up, put on pallets, and loaded into planes, filling 37 C-5s to the brim. Once the planes reached altitude, the flower petals spontaneously turned into unicorns and flew away. The end.

If republicans want to show their interest in financial responsibility they should start checking out the fraud committed during the war.

/Would love to see either side show a back bone and start a Truman Commission for all the wasted money
