I highly doubt that would make up for it. But I guess you can ask the 3 or 4 basketball fans currently residing in Seattle.

How does one get jobs in sports? I don't mean to ask you for a step by step guide, but I've always been curious.

I remember reading Halberstam's The Education of a Coach about Belichick and how he basically showed up at the Baltimore Colts and asked for a job, and he got one watching film where he was paid a pittance and lived out of a motel. I'm just wondering if it's anything like that nowadays. Granted, Belichick's pedigree was apparent even then with his father being a venerable scout for Navy football.

A lot of it helps to know someone; internships are really the only way to do it without knowing anyone. That's the way I got in...but thus far it's not like it's led to anything else.

No it doesn't, and I plan on throwing two parties sometime in the future:

1) When Clay Bennett dies.
2) When David Stern dies.

Although I hate Clay Bennett with every fiber of my being; he was doing what he does best...being a businessman. The real blame lies with Howard Schultz, who gave Seattle (the city that built his fortune) A big "F U" when we wouldn't pay for his pet project after he decided his hobby wasn't going to make him any money.

But yeah...when all 3 are in the dirt, I'll be there with my wang out getting ready to water the lawn.

I've heard that argument and still I can't exonerate Bennett. He was dishonest about his intentions, and maybe Schultz was an idiot to believe him (or pretend to believe him); but still, the guy who sells his soul to the devil isn't more culpable than the devil himself.

That's awesome! I met Joe Kauffman and Adam Markowitz while they were up here covering the ArenaBowl. I'll probably be trying to cover the Shock for them next season.

tdpatriots12: I thought that was what the Seattle Sounders were for.

I'm alright with that trade. I haven't been to a basketball game (excluding a Harlem Globetrotters show) in over 10 years. But I'm a season ticket holder for the Sounders.

That said it still sucked to have the Sonics go. I can appreciate that they had fans here and that having Howard Schultz fark those fans is lame as hell. If the AFL wants to come up here then that's cool. Seattle's a big market... and if the Hawks have another shiat year you might get some people to jump ship (or at least split their loyalties). I still don't get why Seattle doesn't have an NHL team...

I'm not clicking on the link. There is not a professional sports team called the "Yard Dawgz." The beauty is that they don't have to. AFL season runs from April-August, NFL season runs September-December (if you're the Seahawks). And AFL season tickets are cheap. I could get season tickets for the Shock for less than it costs for two Seahawks games (and have a much better view...and be watching a much better team).

I tried telling their fans that their awful name was a major roadblock to their success and they claimed it wasn't. It has TWO misspellings that just make the whole organization seem amateurish and stupid. And it doesn't even shorten it like Sox does for those two teams.

Yeah, but have you been to either? I've been to both. The NBA sucked out loud compared to the AFL. And for the NBA price to sit in the nosebleeds, I would be in the front row at an AFL game, possibly catching free footballs each week.

Agreed on the "NBA sucks" mentality. It's basketball's version of pro-wrestling. I'd be interested in the top pro basketball league if it had 100% college rules, however.

Sorry, you can't have them back. They're ours now, and we rather like them.

Though, if you want a shiatty arena football team, we have one we can sell you on the cheap, barely used.

The name leaves something to be desired, but then again, our recent history of naming sports teams has been kinda hit or miss. While I didn't like "Thunder" when it was announced, it has been growing on me...jury's still out on our new AHL team name though.

Plus, it really is like new. Still have that new franchise smell, seeing as how little of them we watch here.

Actually, they are not THAT new.... they played in the af2 for 6 years before moving to the AFL this year.

Three-time champions in five years of existence, with one runner-up finish on a 2-point conversion in OT.

Seahawks losses in 2009: 11
Shock losses in 2006-2010: 13

C'mon over for a game next season! It's far more exciting than an NFL game. And cheaper. And you get a bunch of free giveaways!
