Agreed.

2010-08-25 04:00:31 PM
I think the uniform alone already screams mentally handicapped, but maybe that's just the hater in me.

2010-08-25 04:00:33 PM
To be fair, most cops do have a severe mental handicap.

2010-08-25 04:02:13 PM
Cops should be able to do whatever they want.

2010-08-25 04:02:22 PM
CTV's Austin Delaney reported that it is only illegal to park in a disabled spot when the spot is marked on the pavement as well as on the wall above the spot.

Lets see a Toronto traffic court let THAT defence stand for a civvy.

Those are Canadian cops in the article. this would never happen in the US.

2010-08-25 04:04:11 PM
They are "parking officers" (i.e. meter maids), not cops.

Oh Canada, in the US of A, cops can park any where they damn well please.

2010-08-25 04:06:00 PM
Uh, I parked in a handicap spot on my way up here. Actually, on a handicap person. I told him I'd be back in five minutes, so that's not such a big deal.

That was impolite of them, eh?

Let's be fair, the cops were at a Tim Hortons. They were already punishing themselves far in excess of this minor crime.

... and they probably have to live in Canada too.

Haven't they suffered enough?

Why would you give your name as the person who took the photo? Flood of tickets in 3...2...1...

Very nice.

Should we expect some any police crulltality?

Delivering a cruller may be an emergency.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: To be fair, most cops do have a severe mental handicap.

Most people who still rent movies today, at a Blockbuster nonetheless are mentally handicapped.

It's not "handicapped spot", it's "spot differently able".

First of all, by putting the word "handicapped" in front, you're focusing on the handicap, not the spot as a valuable entity.

Secondly, the term "handicapped" is a judgment, not merely a description. It's only a handicap if you allow it to be.

Shame on you, subby, for contributing to the oppression of spots differently able.

Toronto police say they are investigating the incident.

Uh huh. I'm sure they're working hard on the case.

I hope that they investigate this incident better than American cops when they "investigate" one of their own.

I used to live in Richmond, VA and there's this rather large strip on the main drag where you can make left turns (but rarely) but no U-turns. On no less than three occasions I actually saw police cars throw on their lights and turn on the siren and speed up to do a U-turn only to turn them off immediately and pull into a Hardee's or Rainbow Doughnuts parking lot.

2010-08-25 04:16:04 PM
If the cops are found to have violated the law once the investigation is complete.
Their punishment will be to have to bring coffee and doughnuts to the squad room everyday for a month.

Sudlow: Those are Canadian cops in the article. this would never happen in the US.

The US has the same law as Canada regarding handicap spot notification having to be both on the pavement and on a marked sign. The cops would've been perfectly OK to park in a similarly marked spot in the US.

We have a joke on our campus: If you want the campus cops to provide security for your building, you'll need to hang doughnuts from it.

2010-08-25 04:20:08 PM
Whatever, in most places there are too many handicap parking spots to being with. A new store built by my house has about 10 parking spots directly in front of the store and 6 of them are handicap spots. What they hell are the chances that 6 gimps roll up at the same time?

Holy crap I forgot about that sketch.

In MA you have to have a cop at construction sites(it's a racket) anyways this cop is sitting there in his car in the shade not directing traffic so my buddy calls to complain and the cop on the other end is like, "ok, and what is your name please?" my friend just bursts our laughing and says "yeah right" the cop kept trying to tell him they just keep your name for "the record" ....suuuureee they do.

I would prefer a policeman doing his job parking there instead than some fatass who is disabled because he/she has diabetes and high blood pressure. I realize there is legitimate disabilities but being fat should not be one. Some people should be encouraged to walk further not less.

Handicapped parking spots are a clear violation of the Equal Protection clause of the Constitution. They're no more acceptable than white-only parking spots.

Yeah if they are ok violating small laws, eventually this leads to violations of more important laws. Learned that in a criminal justice class back in college, I think the example was New York and graffiti.

/slip and slidey
//make cop pay all fines and penalties

Yah, I actually got in a fist fight over parking in a handicap spot. I wasn't in the mood for taking any crap from anyone and I was also struck first. I beat the living hell out of that woman with her own walker. Her friend started screeming at me and said she was gonna call the cops. I got behind her and gave her the hardest double foot kick I could. She flew about fourteen feet out of her wheel chair. Granted I am about 60 years younger than her, but I SOOOO OWNED her!

I can't understand why handicapped parking spots are so darn big.

Like, really - how much space does one need to park a wheelchair?
