Good for you for spending your time building something... well, not useful, but at least interesting.

But that spray paint looks like shiat.

Read this, especially the part about "metal leaf".

The bigger issue to me is that he only used two colors. Trying to effect a wood finish on the grip and body would have gone a long way in to making it passable.

I dont think that steampunk is sanding the Nerf(TM) logos off a dart gun and spray painting it poorly.

With copper spray paint. What a stupid, half assed project. Changing the oil in his '87 ford festiva would have been a cooler project. Try getting your hands dirty once in a while, pal.

Be fair now. He also glued some crap on it. And glued a von to his name, it seems. Is it steampunk to mod your name?

Why would you build a steampunk version of a weapon that is older than the modern steam engine? Wouldn't a steampunk shotgun be the same as a normal 1800's shotgun?

i693.photobucket.com

The fact that he felt the need to put a scope on it makes it even more retarded.

Fool! Steampunk has nothing to do with history! It has four main components: gears, goggles, top hats, and zeppelins! Everything is an old-timey metal like copper or brass and we all pretend to be British!

/Any mod that makes a Nerf gun look like it has a metal barrel, even a crappily brushed metal barrel, at least kind of cool.

From the link:

For light or moderate breakdown, a wash of FEV, dilute scenic paint or tinted glaze is all that's required.

2010-08-25 04:02:56 PM
Huh... there are actual scopes for shotguns, oddly enough (Google search). Picatinny mounted scopes. Or... maybe they were meant for rifles and they simply shoved them on to the shotguns instead.

I love me some Nerf guns. A lot of the new designs have been very impressive - clips, ammo drums, the Gatling gun with the ammo belt; but I really wish they would change up the color scheme. Yellow and neon orange? For every gun? Terrible. At least the blue and yellow they used to do for the old Mavericks and such was better, but come on, let's break up the monotony.

Im a big hoor for good steampunk (mostly because chicks look hot in the outfits perhaps) but this, my friend, is not good steampunk.

New rule: if it isn't actually steam powered, it isn't actually steampunk.

Gravitholus: The fact that he felt the need to put a scope on it makes it even more retarded.

That was my major complaint as well. Scope a long barrel shotgun? Waste of time, fairly dumb, but not entirely useless. Though I wouldn't want to be sighting down the scope of a shotgun...

But scoping such a short barrel shotgun... Why?! The thing is only accurate up to a distance of about n-1" where n is equal to the length of the barrel.

That paint job will land you in jail in NYC. You cannot paint a toy gun to resemble a real gun. And crappy paint job or no, it does resemble, somewhat, a real antique gun...

Maybe getting sued for getting kids killed has something to do with it. I'm not saying that they look like real guns and the cops should have known better. I'm saying the jury says the nerf guns looked to much like real guns.

This. Was thinking "wow, making a breach loading Nerf gun is alright I guess." Then I got to the part where he bought the "Super Awesome Toys 'R Us Special Edition" Nerf gun and just painted it and I lost interest fast.

How to make a kick ass nerf gun:

1. Buy a supersoaker
2. Buy a refill pack of nerf darts
3. Buy a 3' piece of 1/2" ID tubing
4. Glue tubing to end of supersoaker
5. Insert dart and enjoy your new nerf sniper rifle

Another nice trick is to open up the nerf gun and plug up the pressure relief valve (usually a hole in the plunger).
