If you agree to run on your record within the next 15 minutes, we'll throw in this authentic signed Koran and these fabulous Parisian Surrender Kneepads.

And Republicans can run on two years of obstructionist lying traitorous bullcrap. Deal?

At least one side was actually trying to lead, and (their mistake) trying to compromise.

I'd support Democrats a lot more if they'd not rolled over to the constant lies Republicans regularly put out. But I'll have to settle for what landmark legislation they did get done, however watered down some of it was.

Gotta be frustrating for the democrats. When you're dealing with a population that wants nothing more than bumber sticker catch phrases, it's hard to make a rational argument. Hard to communicate with some mouth breather screaming, "they're takin' our jorbs!!".

Repeating "Republicans are, and always have been, fiscally irresponsible" ad nauseum would suffice.

But it's not nuanced enough for the big brains at the DNC apparently.

2) building a mosque (terrorist shrine) in what was the shadow of the WTC

Ummm yea, it's kind of hard to lead when you're the Minority party and the Democrats set the agenda. As for Compromise? Democrats offered no such thing. They offered a plate from the very far left or a plate from just the far left and when Republicans turn up their nose, they're accused of not compromising and being obstructionists. Really the Republicans have behaved better in the minority than the Democrats have, but that's probably due more to the anti-incumbent sentiment in the country combined with the Tea Party keeping them in check.

Democrats can't run on their record because the Independents don't like it.

Notice the lack of specifics on legislation. The troll hopes someone will assume they know what he's referencing to string the mark along.

How far right do you have to be to view the Democratic legislation history from the last 2 years as "very far left"?

Someone that classifies a stimulus package that is 40% tax cuts, a universal health plan that has a mandate and no public option, and little to no movement on DADT or the DOMA as "very far left" has got to be so conservative that it makes Joseph de Maistre flinch.

Yeah, good luck with that. What's the Democrat's record again?

A "stimulus" bill that certainly stimulated the national debt, but kept unemployment at dangerously high levels.

A health care bill that was premised on the idea that we're paying too much for health care... that will end up with the country paying more for health care. A health care bill that only reduces the deficit by slashing Medicare. A health care bill that was supposed to become magically popular when passed but is political poison. Yeah, good luck running on that one...

Unemployment at nearly 10%.

A housing collapse that's been going on for two years and is getting worse.

A President so painfully out of touch with the country that he's insisting that this is a "recovery summer" while every single economic indicator slides down the toilet.

A Congress so reviled that Democratic candidates are running against Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

How about running on being the party of corrupt hacks like Charlie Rangel or Maxine Waters?

Yeah, run on that record. Maybe the Democrats can lose more than the 54 seats they lost in 1994. They're already well on their way...

2010-08-25 09:45:23 AM
I'd like to see Democrats just run clips of the republicans standing in front of giant checks thanking the stimulus for creating jobs in their districts. No debates. No attack ads. No campaign speeches.

Just run commercials with the republicans handing out those giant checks talking about all the kickass jobs in their districts.

At a time when painful unemployment numbers continue to bear down on the tattered economy, many are frustrated that the nation's leader is enjoying another luxurious trip. WombatControl: Yeah, good luck with that. What's the Democrat's record again?

A "stimulus" bill that certainly stimulated the national debt, but kept unemployment at dangerously high levels.

We have no idea the specific effect the Stimulus has had, exactly, but it was the best agreed-upon plan and nothing better has been suggested. We can't say for sure if it prevented things being a lot worse, but chances are good the answer is yes.

A health care bill that was premised on the idea that we're paying too much for health care... that will end up with the country paying more for health care. A health care bill that only reduces the deficit by slashing Medicare. A health care bill that was supposed to become magically popular when passed but is political poison. Yeah, good luck running on that one...

All of the individual provisions are relatively popular (save a few), the overall popularity is rising, and healthcare costs were already skyrocketing. You can't run on the increase of cost, that was inevitable - the bill was meant to slow and offset these increases.

Unemployment at nearly 10%.

What does that have to do with the Democrats? They neither caused nor are continuing that situation.

A housing collapse that's been going on for two years and is getting worse.

Again, nothing to do with the Democrats, everything to do with the economy decades in the making.

A President so painfully out of touch with the country that he's insisting that this is a "recovery summer" while every single economic indicator slides down the toilet.

I can count on one hand the number of times he said that, earlier in the summer. I would need an abacus for the number of times I've heard conservatives use it as a mocking point, because mocking is easier than helping.

A Congress so reviled that Democratic candidates are running against Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

What?

How about running on being the party of corrupt hacks like Charlie Rangel or Maxine Waters?

The right doesn't want to open up the corruption can of worms. There are corrupt politicians everywhere - the Democratic party is taking action against theirs. This is a good thing.

Yeah, run on that record. Maybe the Democrats can lose more than the 54 seats they lost in 1994. They're already well on their way...

LasersHurt: We have no idea the specific effect the Stimulus has had, exactly, but it was the best agreed-upon plan and nothing better has been suggested. We can't say for sure if it prevented things being a lot worse, but chances are good the answer is yes.

II believe now is the time for the response where someone posts the picture of employment figures that had already gone higher than predictions before the stimulus was passed and went higher before the stimulus even thought about going in to effect.

In the same universe where Barney Frank and the CRA caused the housing collapse, a bill that wasn't passed or in effect created higher unemployment.

What I have learned out of this, is don't play Jenga with the republican congresscritters. They are masters of handing off a toppling structure to someone else. However, I don't think the rules include poking at it while it is your turn.
