"He was so impressed by one of their songs, 'Hey Girl,' that he plans to come to Baghdad."

What boy band DOESN'T have a song called "Hey Girl"?

Hey, uh, guys? This is a GOOD THING. There are, as the article pointed out, fundamentalist movements springing up all over Iraq, and unless something changes, another theocratic fascist state is almost certainly going to arise. The US is generally so discredited in the Muslim world that our propaganda isn't going to change much. The only counterbalance that might prevent another Taliban from arising will come from things exactly like THIS. Iraqis, of their own free will, coming up and embracing progressive attitudes and demonstrating to the rest of the country that modern ideas can have their place in Iraq as well.

When was not having instruments any kind of problem for any boy band in the US? Just curious.

WizardX: You're absolutely right, but you can't deny this is still pretty funny. I make lots of fun at our own (especially since I hail from this bizarre fairyland where such musical monstrosities are spawned), so these guys are fair game.

All mock scariness aside,
The group is composed of Shiite Muslims, Sunni Muslims, and Christians. I pray to God that they become popular and the youths of these religions begin to emulate them.

i hate boy bands, but if it pisses off the extremists, then good on them.

2003-06-12 02:15:15 PM
See what happens when you refuse to go after civilians?

2003-06-12 02:15:16 PM
Some advice to these guys: Pick up guitars and start rocking while you still can. News Flash: BOY BANDS SUCK! Well, not all Boy Bands. The first "pop machine produced" boy band, The Monkees, they still kick ass...

2003-06-12 02:16:07 PM
Are they firing one at us, or are we firing one at them?

/Didn't read the article, have to register.

Amen, Ayeroxor

Of course, that's one of the sad ironies. As brutal and evil as Saddam's regime was, Iraq was just about the only country in the area where Christians and Muslims could live together, not just in peace, but actually as friends. Perhaps this band will also help remind people of that.

"Maybe... your god... and my god... could be friends?"

When they get popular and start getting into trouble, we can just blame Bush!

2003-06-12 02:19:58 PM
So we save the Iraqis and they repay us by giving us another boyband, oh and full access to their oil. They must have more than that to offer. I am not satisfied!

2003-06-12 02:20:06 PM

Looks like they did find the WMDs.

They should call themselves "Shock and Awe"

They will...the Muslims and Shiites and Sunnis will all band together in harmony and beat up on the Zoarastrians.

Hey, I am definately no fan of boy bands but seeing that all these guys are of different religions and are promoting multi-culturalism, then thats cool with me. They are just a bunch of guys who have finally been givin' the opportunity to persue a dream, even if it is some gay boy band! I hope they have great success without me buying the album.

But militant Muslim groups are growing in influence in Iraq --

What the fark is wrong with these people? Are they incapable of living witout some fascist dictator telling them what to do and what to think? I hope this band becomes popular in Iraq

FATWAH:

Jihad has now been extended to include the Iraqi population. Shoot anything that moves, preferably before it starts crooning.
