And this is a result of good parenting.

/someone should set up a scholarship for the kid when she reaches collage age.

as opposed to a 3-year-old teenager? adult? big girl?

still cool and all that, but what about using the telephone? cell-phone?

I would've liked to heard that she used other methods that didn't put herself in more danger.

then again, for efficiency, it was probably quicker than trying to get answers from a 3-year-old on the phone. and yes, 911 would probably have some info, but what if she was on a cell phone?

She's a toddler who did the best she could and it worked.

And my allergies are now making me grumpy. Don't mind me.

3- and 4-year-olds are scary smart now. We've taught them how to use the phones, and everything.

Never underestimate a kid on a mission. That kid might be waiting for his PB&J sandwich. And Lord help you if you don't have a cold glass of milk. Don't mess with that child.

I could read independently at a kindergarten level at age 2. I knew my address by then too, and could rattle it off quite easily. I wasn't especially intelligent for my age, I had a parent that spent time with me, and didn't use baby talk. Kids are far more clever than people give them credit for.

Yes, but you are six, not three.

When I was three I smeared relish and ketchup and other refrigerator condiments on my parents' record collection.

If my dad reads this, as he may because he is a Farker... I am very sorry.

Wait- He just left his 3 year old daughter wonder the streets alone? He should be arrested for neglect and she should be turned over to CVS.

I think most 3 year olds would figure out something was wrong and want to do something but at that age the result could be fairly random as far as what plan they come up with. I am sure that the instructions she got were absorbed like the little sponges they are and she just went off to get help.

Its pretty amazing - yes its heroic because it has to take huge guts as a 3 year old to walk off 2 blocks alone which I seriously doubt she has ever done in her life.

This times eleventy billion and three.

When you are that age, you have no biases. No mental blocks. No preconceived notions. Absolute pure absorption of everything going on around you. I used to get into huge fights with an ex of mine that had a kid. "Why are you trying to teach him that, he's only 2!" Well yea, and this is THE BEST time to teach certain habits. It never ceases to amaze me that parents who think their toddler or child acting rude is "cute" and then wonder why their kid grows up to be a douche.

I can't believe with all the cynics here no one has mentioned the eery similarity to the earlier story of the kid calling 911 for the parents who were passed out due also to medication issues.

FTA:

"Frank Tafoya told CNN affiliate KOVR that he "took a mixture of medication I wasn't supposed to at the time -- a bed-time dose -- and I guess I collapsed."

Doctors told KOVR that without the prompt medical attention, Frank Tafoya would have died.

So, he takes some sort of medication which is perfectly safe to take at night time but mysteriously kills you in the daytime. Or, the doctors were talking out of their asses, which I could see as well. Or, "KOVR" never actually talked to the doctors, which makes a bit of sense, as I believe the doctors would have needed written consent from the man involved to even be able to confirm or deny the man was a patient of theirs let alone give hypothetical prognoses. And why would he want his doctors talking to the media about his drug use?

Agreed. My girl just turned 2, and She speaks full sentences because we never baby talked her. She asks questions, and I answer them honestly and in full (scientifically, if the opportunity presents). We've got her enrolled in the top k-8 science-based school in the state for when she hits kindergarten.

She's also got her "please" "thank you" and "no thank you" down pat. Potty training is progressing nicely.

Vertdang: /kids are smart if you don't treat them like babies.

I remember seeing something about a girl who was educated from before she was even born (they would like talk to her through the mom's stomach) and by age four she was able to easily do basic algebra.

Kids are smart, talk to them simply, but clearly.
Act like you want them to be like.
They will absorb like a sponge.

Great to be reminded that there are lots of kids out there who have been given the proper care, attention, education, etc., from their parents - including some examples in the this thread. It saddens me how many bad parents there are in the world - and these parents are typically the ones who have large families.

Can I have your autograph? You are truly special.

As for me, I'm smarter and better educated than the rest of you. But it's not the key to happiness. I would have preferred that my parents taught me how to have fun, rather than crammed me full of education and expectations from day one.

Saw something like this on Real People @1980; Chinese peasant spoke/read/played music to her 4 kids through the womb, and they all turned out academically brilliant.

That said, this kid speaks way too well for a 3y.o. I'm guessing at least 5 and they are fudging her age for the publicity.

Yes, the part that actually interests me in this story is how this fatso would have died at night, but not during the day.

Perhaps he takes a bunch of different medications during the day and some at night, and he got them confused and there was some drug interaction. The result was the vague "Deathly collapse".

Or he had some kind of diabeetus complication. Fortunately I'm not an expert on Type 2 diabetes management.

Hmm...I was actually thinking maybe he doubled-up on blood pressure meds without realizing it?
Some of the high bore high pressure meds can give you dangerous hypotension on an accidental double-dose, I expect. And it's not that hard to do.

Since I take about ten pills, rapid-fire, before I go to work, I have accidentally doubled one particular asthma drug once or twice.
Makes me toss my cookies, which can be annoying on the job.

This.

So to preface, my fiancee lives with her brother and his kid, i was over there one day last week and noticed a golf ball under her bed, which i thought was weird, since she doesnt golf... I inquired, she said it was our nephews, that he dropped it back there a week or two ago but hadnt been able to reach it and she didnt want to move her bed.

So on saturday me and her took him to the zoo, had a great time, hes in the train phase, got to ride on the zoo train, bought him a lion moldarama because hes loving the lion king right now too. He also saw another kid with a shark head grabber thing and he wanted one. It was only like $3, aunt and uncle, our job to spoil him anyway. He wouldnt put down the shark head on a stick and made it 'eat' everything in sight, which was pretty amusing, but anyway, we get back to the house, he runs straight into her room with the shark, sticks it under her bed and comes back out with his golf ball.

he probably had more than one kind of medication and accidently took two together that he shouldn't have.Or the wrong dose.

Probably his doctor should look into getting the medication changed, if possible, but some things -nitro comes to mind are just a "You have to be really careful with that"
