Why would we Canadians EVER invade the US?

We've been far better stewards of both our natural resources and our economy than America. I'd much rather stay here, kthx

Allocating vast resources to fund high-profile but inadequate initiatives while utterly neglecting the other 95% of the supposed "problem"? Yeah, that's MY America!

Hmm...$8.5 million to upgrade a crossing that sees five travelers a day? I can't imagine why anyone would think this a waste...

$8.5m of the $23m is for a post that, seriously, handles an average of 5 vehicles a day. Canada closed their corresponding one already. Link.

The US and Canada should have signed something like Schengen the better part of a century ago. But, well, the US doesn't do stuff like that, and Canada is partially defined by not being the US, so here we are.

what % of illegal immigrants cross through the canadian-us border? now compare that to the percentage that cross through the mexican-us border.

Or, you could just attribute it to racism!

Pretty much that right there. Did not RTFA, but did anybody point out that there are a lot of drugs smuggled across the northwestern borders? It's mostly weed, and nobody seems to think it's any kind of huge problem, but it's still illegal activity.

That said:

It is pretty awesome that Conservatives have gone from being people that tear down walls to people that build them.

Every revolution ends up with the revolutionaries becoming what they once claimed to hate, and so it is with the Reaganites.

You may be right at that. You'd have to be willing to accept the proposition that St. Ronnie jumped on the 'Tear Down This Wall' bandwagon after it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that it was going to happen anyway.

You can't dock for grammatical errors because outrage usually comes across from a lack of higher thinking (ergo: massive spelling errors).

You have obviously never driven Highway 3 between Lethbridge and Taber or any of the QEII highway. 120kmh is going slow on those roads.

Fair enough, but there are alot of variables here, starting with:

How difficult it is to legally emigrate to Canada from the US.

That's why I clearly wrote immigrate. The tourism numbers are probably even more skewed. "Come to Canada for all the meh you can handle."

It's really not. Pull 67 points on this list, not be terribly unhealthy, and you'll get in pretty darned easily.

I could get Perm. Res. status without even a job offer, let alone if I had a job lined up. I'm going to wager that a good half of Fark could.

Compared to the bureaucratic nightmare of getting into the US, it's one of the easiest countries in the world to get status in.

Yeah, but most of the weed from Canadia isn't coming thru Montana. It's coming thru the unpoliced wilds of British Columbia into the wastes of Washington and Idaho; and anyway, who cares if a little MORE pot is coming into the Northwest? Just free market operation AFAIK. Or care.

Montana just doesn't have any islands they can build useless bridges to to take pork money from Congress for.

My understanding is that Canada has a point system, and that if you don't rate the minimum number of points, you're not getting in.

In most cases, if you don't already have a job lined up in Canada, you'll also be required to have about ten grand in a bank account.
