Penguins became smarter than us when they left southern Chile during tourist season.

The ones in the zoos: I feel for ya. Maybe you'll evolve the ability to fly again.

A couple of Humboldt penguins wanted to get a better look at a butterfly that flew into their enclosure

Yes, that's one way to put it.

Another way to put it is, "Penguins try to eat a butterfly".

They get meals on a regular basis, and don't have to worry about being eaten by an orca. So they have time to fark around and chase butterflies.

Leaving completely satisfied.

When the predators are penguins and the prey is a butterfly it's very cute. It's the same thing when my house cat is "stalking" his jingle balls.

/You didn't get a bit of a smile when you watched that?

I bought my 5 year old daughter a monarch butterfly 'kit'. came with a tank, little habitat-looking inside and a few catepillars who cocooned themselves and turned into butterflies. after a few days we took the little things outside to let them fly away into the wild. my daughter put the first one on a flower, it made its way to the top, and flew away.
about 8 seconds into its flight, a blue jay swooped down and ate it.

Blue jays must not have taste buds. Monarch butterflies eat milkweed plants in the caterpillar stage and are thus poisonous and taste awful, so predators usually avoid them.

/used to raise monarchs in my room as a kid

Penguins in zoos chase butterflies, penguins in the wild (new window) have no time to chase butterflies.

"Well honey, you see, sometimes the giant terror birds get a hankering for horse flesh. It just wasn't meant to be."

Meh. Video was fake. Everyone knows penguins will fall over backwards if something flies towards them and over their heads.

You've got to respect an animal that is always so formally dressed.

Some great giggles before work there. Loves me some penguins.

I would love to see the video with the reaction when they catch a butterfly, and the horde of hungry penguins starts fighting to tear its wings off, share its thorax, and swallow its head.

Ever seen birds fight over food? It's not pretty.

But they're penguins! Awwww! Cute!
