Like how M Night Shyamalan hamfistedly (it's a word) portrayed the movie critic in Lady in the Water? Never before have I seen such a pathetic and transparent attempt at being snarky.

Which is bad by itself... but when Shyamalan himself plays a writer who gives rise to a messianic figure who'll change the world?

Those are some CRAZY issues being worked out onscreen.

Do not trifle in the affairs of TV writers for they are subtle and quick to anger.

"Friends" spoofed the practice in an episode in which Joey gets a job on a soap opera. After he brags to a reporter that he writes some of his own lines, his character plunges down an elevator shaft to his death.

bestuff.com

Ah, yes. I remember when they killed off Dr. Drake Ramoray. Dropped his ass down an elevator shaft 'cause Joey pissed off the writers.

My mom once dated a guy who ghost-wrote one of the "Hardy Boys Casefiles" books, and he explained to me that he had snuck his mother's maiden name into the book as an alias used by one of the characters when making travel arrangements.

Uncool story, bro.

A mathematician, an architect and a Hollywood producer make a bet to see who has the smartest dog.

They place a pile of dog biscuits on the floor and bring each dog in one at a time.

The mathematician's dog lays the biscuits in a row and counts them. (Pretty smart)

The architect's dog arranges the biscuits into a little structure. (Pretty impressive)

The Hollywood producer's dog comes in, crushes the biscuits to powder, snorts the powder, farks the other two dogs and leaves without saying thank you.

On the HBO seris "Oz" if actors were frequently late or dickish the writers would have them put nude in the "hole", which was apparently uncomfortable and worked rather well.

I think that was last night's, which I haven't had time to watch yet. Stupid job.

I have to say, I have been quite impressed by the majority of the "USA originals" lately. Lots of character, smart, fun, quirky. I like 'em!

Fade in. Police sirens scream, lights flash. Mob of policemen surrounding victim, shaking heads in disgust.

Officer 1

Apparently he raped his mother. When his dad got home he tried restraining him but the man stumbled backwards into a cattle prod, anus first.

Officer 2

Oh man, just horrible. What was his name?

Officer 1

He went by the name Dreadskull.

Dreadskull: Really? "Psyche" is a good show? I couldn't sit through the pilot.

It's a rather specific type of humor. If you don't like that kind of humor, you'll hate the show. That doesn't mean it's not good though. It's very good at something that you don't like. There are skilled country musicians out there. I don't like them because I dislike the genre in general, but I can still acknowledge that they are good.

A buddy of mine turned me on to Burn Notice and is now prodding me to check out Royal Pains, which I will view this weekend. Does the USA network produce any bad "original series?"

Their new one, Covert Affairs, is also very good. As is White Collar.

So to answer your question... not in my opinion. I think the only one of the "originals" I don't watch is the L&O one, but that's really more of an NBC thing rather than a USA thing.

This one was the best "FU" from Family Guy to Fox. This was the intro to the season opener after FG had been picked up after a two year hiatus.

Peter: Everybody I've got bad news. We've been cancelled.

Lois: Oh no Peter! How could they do that?

Peter: Well unfortuantely Lois, there's just no more room on the schedule. We just gotta accept the fact that FOX has to make room for terrific shows like Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonder Falls, Fast Lane, Andy Richter Controls The Universe, Skin, Girl's Club, Cracking Up, The Pitts, Firefly, Get Real, Freaky Links, Wanda At Large, Costello, The Lone Gunman, A Minute with Stan Hooper, Normal Ohio, Pasadena, Harsh Realm, Keen Eddy, The Street, American Embassy, Cedric The Entertainer, The Tick, Louie, And Greg The Bunny....

Lois: Is there no hope?

Peter: Well I suppose if ALL those shows go down the tubes we might have a shot.

/Note: all of the shows came and went during Family Guy's absence.

Ouch. Lots of Psyche fans in here. I thought I'd check it out because I liked Dule Hill on West Wing. Guess I can give it another shot. Can't be any worse than Burn Notice or White Collar right?

I just don't have too much time for PG13 crime drama when there's so much sex violence and swearing on HBO and Showtime.

Watch the second episode of the first season, "Spellingg Bee." If you don't like that one, you just aren't gonna like the show.

Still, I don't think anything can be any worse in that category than Jamie Kennedy's "documentary" Heclker, which is mostly him whining about how no one liked Son of the Mask.

They make the assumption that anyone is actually watching the crap they write... silly of them.

If I ever fulfill my dream of being a TV writer (and I am more or less on track for it), I plan on making a character named Glendon who keeps making ambiguous references to doing something heinous around the time Iraq invaded Kuwait.
