Space Nazis. I hate these guys.

What no District 10?

MONSTERS sounds like an uncredited remake of DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS.

And I AM NUMBER FOUR has 2 strikes and a foul tip against it
because it involves James Frey.

Men in Black 3? Really? Really? We needed a third one?

Walker: Men in Black 3? Really? Really? We needed a third one?

in 3d no less.

Also, Battleship? Seriously?

Space Nazis? Seriously?

Gah, I forgot that battleship was going to be a movie. Why? Is anything unadaptable?

That skyline trailer makes me think: "Defender: The movie!"

As long as they don't land in Arizona.

I've heard good things about Monsters, essentially District 9 in Mexico, but sadly without someone like Guillermo del Toro or Alfonso Cuarón, a British production, I'm not completely sold on it. Paul, of course, looks like a slice of fried gold, and I'll be there on opening day.

Skyline looks, well, who knows, same with that JJ Abrams project, but the Space Nazis project, I'd watch that, sure. Battle for Los Angeles, I've been waiting on that one for years, but the long, long time it's been in development doesn't exactly instill a ring of confidence for me.

It's a stretch, but couldn't that del Toro/Cameron At the Mountains of Madness be a project that should have been on that list?

The best part of MiB was the cross-generational interactions of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Even the most (only) quotable part of MiB II was the "old and busted/new freshness" conversation. Now Will Smith himself is over 40 himself, it's going to be hard to play the "I'm the new blood" angle.

Still, the franchise itself has a lot of potential, *IF* they get some decent writing and don't turn the movie into a giant product placement (Burger King). I won't hold my breath.

Wasn't there supposed to be a Japanese Star Blazers movie coming out too?

Iron Sky looks like it will be hilarious.

When I saw MIB:3 I rolled my eyes. When I saw that it would be in 3D they rolled back into my brain. I can't actually see what I'm typing right now.

"The script is said to involve time travel this time around."

Time travel has worked as a plot device in Back to the Future, The Terminator and to a lesser extent Star Treks 4 and 8 and an episode or two of the Trek TV episodes (not all that familiar with Dr Who but maybe that too). So I think the odds are against this not sucking.

It's kinda like what I said when I learned that there was going to be a 7th season of 24, "They've upped the ante so many times, the only way to make it watchable is if Jack Bauer starts fighting space aliens."

Given that the Doctor is a Time Lord and the entire show revolves around travelling through time...I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that time travel works for Doctor Who. :p

I have to disagree. Time travel completely ruined Doctor Who. It's just like when every episode of Law & Order ended up being some sort of murder mystery.

Ya know, I just watched that scene in ID4, and Smith's character actually says "Earth", not "Earf". So where does that come from?

You're correct, but I would *swear* that one of the original film trailers had "Earf" in it and it was rerecorded (or a different take) in the film.

/could easily be misremembering...

"I am Number Four" should stop fooling around and just change the name to Roswell since it's obviously a ripoff of that show.

before they re-dubbed the line to say "Earth", it was very obvious that he said "Earf".

Like I said, I don't know anything about Doctor Who, except that it's been on for like 50 years so I guess it's pretty good. My original point was that time travel has been used dozens of times and it almost always sucks.

I'll add Restaurant at the End of the Universe to the "not suck" list.

Messing with "The Thing"?

This has the potential for a humongous victory but the likelihood of a flaming hole in the ice of failure is much greater.

/at least have the sense to end it with the dog running away

My commentary:

Monsters - I'm tired of invasion/destruction movies shot in a documentary style. It's overdone.
Skyline - People getting sucked up into the sky? Sounds lame.
I Am Number Four - Alien teenagers? Nuff said.
Battle: Los Angeles - Movies with lame names are typically lame. I predict lots of melodrama and slow motion ala Michael Bay.
Paul - Sounds like a good movie to watch on cable.
The Thing - completely unnecessary. Could still be cool because the concept is so great, or a total disaster.
Cowboys & Aliens - I like Harrison Ford, so I hope it's good. But I have a bad feeling that it will be an overproduced disaster.
The Darkest Hour - Need more info.
Super 8 - Needs more info. Abrams is good, but totally overrated.
Iron Sky - Nazis in space?! Where can I pre-order my ticket?
Battleship - I'm still waiting for someone to admit that this is an April fools joke.
Men in Black 3D - Not only is it unnecessary, but time travel is the best they can come up with?

Iron Sky, is this for real, it almost seems like a neo-nazi film. Either way I think we're safe because of these guys:

Sadly, the only person that was able to sell a foreign language movie to an American audience (twice!) is the now insane and Hollywood social pariah, Mel Gibson.

I just saw a Fresh Prince of Bell Air episode and Smith says "Bref Mints" about 5 times in a row. Very clearly "Bref" not "Breath".

Maybe that scene was so ingrained in everyone's head that every word with a "-th" said by Smith, we all hear "-f".

With "Scott Pilgrim" (sadly) bombing out at the B.O., it's going to be a long time before that happens.

Sad about it too.

Seriously folks. Go see SPvTW.
If for no other reason than to see funding granted to another Wright/Pegg/Frost production.
The fact that it's a very good movie will just be a bonus.

Zed-ex, talking Blood and Ice Cream, I find it wonderful that each flavor of Cornetto used in the movies are references to Krzysztof Kieslowski's Three Colors. The World's End will happen, we just have to be patient.
