Since we are throwing out driving songs, one of my all time favorites is Welcome to the Pleasure Dome by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. It's a long song; it starts out slow and revs up to high rpm.

/I know they're ghey, save it.

Came for this.

Will return to finish my work in a bar room in Mombassa.

Rhetorical question. Kid Rock sampled some of it on some shiat song whose name escapes me.

My DBT mix cd is one of my faves for long drives.

The other one is Bat out of Hell. Pretty much end up pushing 85-90 by the end of the title track.

Beatles, Rolling Stones, Iggy Pop, Sex Pistols, David Bowie, ACDC, Pink Floyd, assorted Brit pop bands of the 80's, etc., etc., etc., etc.

Care to elaborate?

Balchinian: No surprise there. Look at the similarities between the cultures...bad teeth, unintelligible speech, intellectually challenged, historically inbred...etc.

You've obviously never been to Alabama. I grew up there. There is a lot of high tech industry and the Space & Rocket center. A lot of good, kind people live in the South. I never met anyone like you described. But if it makes you feel better to belittle people because you have a limited world view then so be it. Just be aware that you sound like the redneck.

I've lived all over. So far, the redneck capital seems to be East San Diego.

Radiohead's OK Computer will actually make you slow down, especially when you get to The Tourist.

Why is this surprising? It may not be my cup of tea to drive to but it is a good song, loved all over the world. Should we pick our favourite driving song on purely nationalistic and patriotic merits?

Also what's with the folk trying to troll Brits? It's only 8am here, either asleep or too tired to bite.

Actually, if I were to make a series of five mix cds of my favorite driving songs, that would be somewhere on the third.

Damn great album, that. Many great times I've been party to with it as soundtrack.

My dad (born in 1952) grew up in Birmingham during its ugliest Bombingham days. His area of town was white, middle-class, mostly Kennedy territory, and they definitely did not love the governor there.

Aussies. Though I can understand why you would want to claim them, as they have better songs spackled across the inside of the tourbus toilet than the entirety of the Rolling Stones discography combined.

To be fair, Angus and Malcolm are Scottish born Australians. Yeah I'd class them as Australians but I know plenty of Scots who feel of them as their own, understandably.

There's nothing like a room full of half drunken chicks singing Relax to help a guy get into his Don Juan persona and start laying down his moves.

Apart from them being massively overrepresented in almost every field of human endeavour you'd care to mention. Also, you forgot Rod Stewart.

There's some new song that heavily riffs from it going around on the radio now, not really a cover but more of a recreation. No idea who does it. Youngins being what they are, they might hear the words Sweet Home Alabama and think it must be the original.

Funny, I'm partial to Rob Zombie's "Meet the Creeper". Mainly because it's the Twisted Metal III theme song. Makes me want to weave and strafe.

And then there's always some kinda high pitched noise, y'know? Or like a siren. And of course they have to put in the obligatory old movie quote from some sci-fi movie. It's like... "The system is down!"

Every time I get to drive (which isn't often - my wife has been driving about 10 years longer than I have) I have to listen to Devo. Usually Freedom of Choice, sometimes Oh No, or New Traditionalists. I dunno. Just love listening to Devo when I'm driving.

All in all, that's pretty good taste coming from a country which sports a German hoor for a Queen.
