I dated a Swedish chick once. She had a songbook from her school days. And there, among the hork-bork-bork-bork songs, was...Sweet Home Alabama.

/and yes, she was totally hot.

It's a catchy song, even if they do love the Governor.

From my limited experience, Brits I run into seem to have a fascination for is southern redneck culture. I've been asked about the South/KKK/racism a few times by British people here lviing in the Far East (so maybe not the best sample, but there is a lot of them living here). Like do you get hassled when you go to the south part of the US (I'm Asian)? It's like they have this 1960's image of the southern states.

Case in point: Top Gear episode where they go to the South.

No surprise there. Look at the similarities between the cultures...bad teeth, unintelligible speech, intellectually challenged, historically inbred...etc.

I agree with this assessment, although there are exceptions to the rule in both cultures.
The Brits gave us Amy Winehouse, and Southern Americans gave us Ke$ha (give her time, I promise the pay off will be huge.)
The Brits gave us Emma Watson, and Southern Americans gave us Reese Witherspoon.
The Brits gave us Oasis, and Southern Americans gave us the Black Crowes.
I could continue, but I digress.

Your list sucks because it doesn't have THE ENTIRE STEVE MILLER BAND DISCOGRAPHY on it!

Last weekend I was listening to John Fogerty's "The Long Road Home" CD and found my right foot growing heavier during "Travelin' Band", "Fortunate Son" and the live versions of "Bootleg" and "Keep on Chooglin'".

During "Up Around the Bend" I caught myself going 25 miles over the speed limit. Fortunately I caught myself before the many radar cops around here did.

Oh yeah, I'm partial to Jungle Love myself, and as a tip of the hat to HellenKellersFingers, I submit to you Hollywood Nights. I get the head rocking and swiveling and the shoulders shimmying to that Seger classic. It embarrasses my kids every time.

In Birmingham (UK) they love the Guv'nor.

I was suprised at how popular the song was in Germany back in the late '80's. Seems they all know New York, LA, and Sweet Home Alabama.
