Random Reality Check: Cat Food Sandwiches: Only one Democrat President has served 2 full terms since the 1940's, and he never got over 50% of the votes.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

In all fairness to your point, it will depend on who the GOP runs.
If they run someone good, I would seriously consider voting for them.

What, you mean someone to the left of Palin? If you believe they'll run a moderate, I've got a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

But really, I don't care what either of them have to say. They're both washed up has-beens anyway.

Pat Buchanan is consistent.

-ly a racist, nationalist xenophobe. And he hates the Jews. His beliefs are pretty predictable: he abhors interventionalist foreign policy of any stripe, particularly when it benefits Israel.

So he strongly denouced the Iraq war, he opposes crossing swords with Iran, and he thinks we need to distance ourselves from Israel. This is predictable and consistent, and I happen to agree with him on these points, but not remotely for the same reasons.

But Pat Buchanan saying you are going a little far with racist, xenophobic language? That's like Lindsay Lohan telling you you need to ease up on the meth.

True story: My father's mother (I refuse to call the old bat my grandmother) used to get birthday/holiday cards from Pat Buchanan. Every. Year.

I'm almost inclined to contact him and say 'Hey, Pat? I'm (old bat)'s granddaughter, I'm a liberal atheist, and I want to tell you to go fark yourself, you racist, sexist, homophobic, nationalistic xenophobe.' Just to make him piss his pants a little.

Her or her staff. After her treatment of the McCain campaign staff and her subsequent biatch-fest in the book, I can't see anyone wanting to work with her. Not anyone who could actually pull off a win for her, at least.

They would only want to work with her so that they can eventually write a tell-all book that describes the grifter-whore in all of her glory.

Political observers will no doubt remember the hateful, divisive "culture war" speech that Pat Buchanan delivered to the 1992 Republican National Convention -- the same speech that alienated the moderate middle and did considerable damage to the Republican brand that November.

I fervently hope with every fiber of my being that the RNC collective has a very short memory, and that Newt Gingrich fills this role in 2012.

How cute. It's too bad that the majority needed to win the presidential election is the ELECTORAL vote, not the popular vote (y'know, like in 2000, when GOP fanboys were all "You lost, GET OVER IT!" to the libs, remember?). Lets see THOSE numbers:

1992
William Clinton ... 370 ... 68.8%
George Bush ...... 168 ... 31.2%
H. Ross Perot ......... 0 ...... 0.0%

1996
William Clinton ... 379 ... 70.4%
Robert Dole ........ 159 ... 29.6%
H. Ross Perot ......... 0 ...... 0.0%

You were saying something about Clinton getting less than 50% of the vote?

Gingrich/Palin '12: When the going gets tough, quit and make a fortune doing speeches!

From wiki:
Facing another rebellion in the Republican caucus, he announced on November 6, 1998 that he would not only stand down as Speaker, but would leave the House as well. He had been handily reelected to an 11th term in that election, but declined to take his seat. Commenting on his departure, Gingrich said, "I'm willing to lead but I'm not willing to preside over people who are cannibals. My only fear would be that if I tried to stay, it would just overshadow whoever my successor is."

You know, the average voter is, well, average. And to be honest with you, I believe that things are getting better. This is not blind optimism, nor some belief in some kind of divine intervention, this is from watching a bloated, incurious, group of incompetents run this country almost continuously for 30 years.

It's changing, not in an Obama kind of way, but in a new generation kind of way.

Gone are the Yuppies, the Alex P. Keatons, The Gordon Gekkos, they're all in our past. Now, the question is, can we draw this newer generation into the idea that we are one country, indivisible, and that we can work together to restore this country's greatness.

It's happening, you can smell it in the GOP's desperation. It's palpable.

What's the unwritten netiquette rule about FTFM ...does it count after someone else has already corrected you twenty minutes after your initial post (and that correction comes a further 10 minutes later), or is half-an-hour counted as goalpost moving, and a little bit lame?

Okay, fair enough. You made an honest statement and I will give you an honest (and unsnarky) answer.

The TEA Party doesn't represent me. I honestly wish that they did.

To my way of thinking spending isn't the issue, earnings are. Let me give you an example of what I mean.

If you were making $250K per year, wold you really mind paying $50K in taxes? Seriously?

What this country has seen in my lifetime is a degradation in our earning power (or buying power, if you prefer) that is now causing a lot of the unrest. Fix earnings and people won't feel so broke - or to put it another way, so badly taxed.

When I was a kid, America had a massive middle class - now it has withered down to nothing. What made this country great was that anyone, anyone who wanted to work hard could actually get ahead - and a lot of us did.

At one time Detroit had the highest rate of owner occupied homes in the world. Even harder to believe is that during that tie Youngstown Ohio was the single richest city in the US, per capita.

Want me to join you?

Legalize drugs and repatriate all of those serving drug sentences in prison. Reform Immigration (and no, I don't mean bandaid it) so that it is fixed. Cut military spending to where it works against the enemies we have today, not yesterday. Deny benefits for Social Security to those who don't need it and remove the cap for those who can afford to pay into what has proved to be a pretty damn successful program.

I could go on - but until someone, or a party, actually adopts this platform, I will remain a disaffected voter who is still looking for a home.

I honestly look forward to your reply.

Yes because you know, going back to the business policies of the GOP is really going to send America back in the right direction, I mean just look at the past decade and see the spectacular job GOP business policies have been. They're so awesome that they were giving away jobs to other countries because they have lower standards of work conditions. I mean who can argue again a pro-business policy like that.

"I mean, I think bringing the Nazis into the argument is always absurd in American politics because there is no valid comparison there. And secondly, you know, you bring that in and that's all we start talking about."

Pat Buchanan is a hidebound Cold War dinosaur and fascist fundamentalist, but he knows the dark side of American politics better than anyone since Nixon cashed in his chips.

When he thinks someone has gone too far, he's probably right, and it's quite an indictment.

There is no "debate." The ultimate authority in the Republic is CRYSTAL clear on the matter. The insane, would-be theocrats don't like it and can't change it. Well, the solution is simple, "America: Love it or leave it. There's the door asshats, you won't be missed."
