I'm extremely skeptical of this claim. I followed the citation to the book, and the book didn't cite any evidence for the number. Moreover, the book didn't come up with the ridiculous 3.5% number. According to wikipedia, Evangelicals are about 26% of the population. Based on my own experiences with organized religion, I'd say at worst there is a 60/40 ratio of females to males, meaning that Evangelical women would be underrepresented in the universe of women having abortions.

Having grown up with Evangelicals, the idea that you can be "evangelical" and "liberal" is full of bull.

Yes, superficially Evangelicals can seem accepting and progressive, but they're really just doing that so until they get into a position where they can wield some sort of social power to get their actual agenda instituted.

Basically, they'll very willingly talk out of both sides of their mouth in order to theocratize any community they can.

Well, that and people go to hookers because they want to, and it's easy to understand a hooker's motivation. And even the aggressive hookers will take "no" for an answer, if you tell them to go away.

See, it's not that we hate evangelicals so much as we all hate hypocrisy.

They just happen to often have much higher levels of it than your average atheist. You know, all those commandments and passages they cherry pick throughout a very long and contradictory book.

If they hate the gays, they better hate shrimp just as much, but they never seem to, do they? They whine about gay marriage yet don't try to get divorce outlawed in any real numbers. Christ wouldn't shut up about poverty and charity yet the Vatican is festooned with precious metals and has a hierarchical structure outlined nowhere in the Bible.
