I really loved that show. Then I stopped watching, for some reason. But a couple of weekends ago, I caught a marathon and it was all about Phil.

Man, it was tough to watch.

But Captain Phil lived, you know? He was a partier, family man and a fisherman.

I would have loved to drink a beer or 15 with him.

He would have done it, you would have passed out, and he would have called you a pussy and had 15 more.

The man certainly brought on his own fate with is chosen lifestyle, but he seemed to have loved every minute of it. The only regret he seemed to have is not being there for his kids when they were young, but tried to make up for it in their later years.

We should all be so lucky to spend our lives doing what we love. Though I wouldn't wish to go out like he did. That's a death I wouldn't want to wish on anyone.

Just watched the most recent Phil episodes. Definitely hard to watch.

Sig mentioned Phil coming back to the acting captain of the Cornelia Marie and the captain started tearing up and could barely tell Sig that Phil was gone. So sad.

I guess sitting on your ass all day smoking cigs and drinking Redbull isn't too good for you.

Corn liquor, maybe.

Thats just a-maizing !

Watching what happened to Phil was tough; he did bring it on himself; but it looks like his kids are going to be ok, Josh is almost not smoking and, so far, Jake has cleaned up. There is some question as to the fate of F/V Cornelia Marie. The boys ought to sell shares like the old-time whalers did to raise the cash for voyages. I think it'd be neat to own a share or two in the Cornelia Marie.

This Capt Phil's Year of Mourning and Remembrance getting a little out of hand. 10 yrs ago, only a few people had any clue about crab fishing in the Bering Sea and even fewer knew there was such a person as Phil or Sig or any of the others. Along comes a TV show that lets the world get to know some of these guys and how tough crab fisherman have it, but that they make buckets of money for living and working hard. One of them croaks and it's not a stretch to conclude that his hard living contributed to his early demise. Others have died since the show started, mostly from accidents at sea without all the hoopla. From the kind of guy he seemed to be, Harris would probably either laugh at all the ridiculous attention or be embarassed by it. He sure as hell wouldn't take it as seriously as it's been made to be. Maybe its time to let him rest in peace.

It's the first time someone we were familiar with, as a direct star on the show, has died. Yes, we all kind of expected it, especially after his first scare. I mean, me and the wife are both medical professionals, and basically predicted the exact way he ultimately went.

But because of the show, a lot of people felt like they knew him. He seemed very real, like someone you might actually know living down the road. Sure, he was and TV and didn't know anything about any of us, and probably gave two shiats one way or another. But the guy was known by us, and I know I personally teared up a bit when they said goodbye to him on the show.

I caught the tail end of the funeral episode. What the hell did they bury him in? Looked like a motorcycle gas tank.
