(Atlanta Journal Constitution)   UN secretary general says he has never seen a disaster as bad as the flooding in Pakistan. But it doesn't involve Americans, so is it really news?   (ajc.com) divider line 96

How long before someone blames it on Bush?

2010-08-15 12:15:56 PM
As the wikileaks documents illustrated, Pakistan is pretty much at triple-secret war with us(and us with them).

I hate the fact that their ruling elite will not suffer a bit due to the flooding. Most of them are just poor folk.

He could take a look over the northern border of his beloved home country. There's a massive disaster affecting millions of people that has been going on for decades.

Yeah, but no matter how much we ignore them, the Canadians just won't seem to go away.

I'm not sure I understand what the headline is getting at. Is this a referendum on the news, or a referendum on dumb twats who never read the news yet think they can post a witty headline on Fark?

I blame Obama. He promised change I could believe in. I now expect more from will.i.am.

Do they have any natural resources we really need?

If not then hell with'm. The United States is in a giant recession, now is not the time to be spending money we don't have on people we really don't need anyway.

Time to also stop sending foreign aid to places like Africa , unless we get diamonds in return. Sweet precious diamonds.

A destabilized nation with nuclear weapons and extremist elements.

What could possibly go wrong?

So what is the over/under on an India Pakistan nuclear war? I'm thinking within the next 10 years.

Attention, residents of Pakistan. Please stop placing your homes and buildings in the flood plain. That is all.

2010-08-15 04:54:59 PM
We all know how this will go down. We'll send them billions in aid, save thousands of lives, then in six months they'll be right back to "Death to the great satan America!"

Not a chance. We're boned no matter what we do.

I think I would care more about Pakistan if the country did not go out of it's way to stab us in the back on an hourly basis. There are some pretty bad floods going on in Iowa right now also, but you don't see the UN secretary general or the news media talking about that.

We should never let that happen. Obviously the solution is preemptive air strikes on the Tea Party.

F*ck Pakistan. Nobody helps us when we have hurricanes, floods, etc. But then they expect us to help? Too bad. Help your f*cking selves, especially two-faced Pakistan. We should send aid in the form of carpet bombing.

Speaking as an Ames IA resident, I can say that the floods here are nothing compared to what's going on in Pakistan. Some people have lost their homes and possessions, and the water supply was shut down, but within twelve hours we had tanker trucks parked all over town distributing potable water. The water was restored the same day, but with the restrictions of "boil it first", "take short showers", and "use full loads of laundry."

Drinking water should be restored on Tuesday, there's plenty of shelter space for everyone that needs it, and the heat wave broke. To me, it's been a good lesson in perspective.

The rulers of the country are not the ones affected by the flooding. And, given the nature of fighting small terrorist groups, I'd venture to say that having the populace of pakistan deeply on your side is probably more beneficial than the leadership, except for a few things like nuke safety.

Just so you know, we got tons of international aid after Katrina. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina.

I'm sure you were just mistaken though, and not a complete tool.

The problem is, India has a lot more to loose (5000 years of history, a deep culture, religion, a developing economy, Indo-European/Aryan people) than the Islamic terror Central known as Pakistan.

The irony being that Pakistan is a illegal country created by a illegal colonial occupation, formally and officially created for one sole purpose: to protect the "muslims" from the "hindus". 60 years of post-independence terror and Jihad (and 300 years of Islamic Mughal terror) have shown how ass-backwards that was. Really, the policy should have been to put the 'slims on a island somewhere, in the middle of the pacific or somesuch place. Right now,
the solution is for the Indian supreme court to unilaterally declare that the creation of Pakistan was illegal based on false assumptions, move all the Pakis to a large camp in the south of the country and reunify Indian land back to India.

The article was about Pakistan, hence my snaky comment was not directed toward the hard working individuals of these United States of America. Communist.

Regarding the UK aid - "It also pledged to release an extra 2.2 million barrels (350,000 m3) of oil."

So BP releases the oil and what do you guys do? Moan for 3 months!

On a serious note, reading that list I'd feel pretty loved if I was an American. When Djibouti offers £50k you gotta feel like people care. Shame about the handling of the Cuban offers though.

This involves America directly, since it's a place where Al Queda really shouldn't be allowed to fill the vacuum that this will cause.

As to your solution...for some reason that made me think of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Well, to be fair I am sure the Pakistanis were all torn up after 9/11 or Katrina.
