Cops in my town are notorious for stopping kids late at night and confiscating their drugs. The kids seem happy not to be arrested, and the cops seem hapy to have free drugs all the time.

On the other hand, I'm not happy that our cops are all on drugs.

Good for them. Perhaps they will get so baked that they will leave innocent people alone. I'd sure like to see that episode of Cops, though.

...launched an investigation into the Beursstraat station, next to Amsterdam's stock exchange building...

Is anyone REALLY surprised?

Or then again, would they?

My favorite line from the article.

With what police get paid, they'd have to steal drugs to be a user...

2003-06-10 10:21:02 AM
They described occasions when colleagues were so stoned on Ecstasy

the police are the thin blue line between the general public and the murderous drug gangs and addicts who steal to finance their habit.

The next time you ring your local police station to report a burglary or a smash-and-grab from your car, remember you might be disturbing the copper's trip

Methinks this "commentator" knows exactly dick about drug use. Can you say scare tactics boys and girls? I thought you could!

Oh yeah, that guy said the freaking drug dealers were bad. What an idiot that guy is. Can you say "There are more drugs then my weed and I'm a damn moron and please punch me in the face"?

Yeah, but those hard core user cops are always stealing your stash. Not much you can do about it.

EnglishMan

Can you say "There are more drugs then my weed and I'm a damn moron and please punch me in the face"

Jesus, why would I? Do you even speak English? Learn how to form a coherent sentence.

BTW, You're mixing up cause and effect, like most drug warriors. I bet drug dealers wouldn't be "bad" if drugs were legal. In fact, they'd probably be regular business owners. God forbid.

Have to roll my eyes whenever I hear some guy talk about going to Amsterdam to "visit the cafes". If you have to go globe-trekking to get stoned, you've got major issues.
And while I'm all for legalization of select narcotics, Amsterdam isn't exactly a perfect model. Crime is rampant. Far from a progressive utopia. That being said, it's not the marijuana or hashish thats causing the problems, but rather the permissive attitudes that are breeding heroin junkies faster than (insert metaphor here).

2003-06-10 10:44:30 AM
Sounds like you're stoned right now! But I'll go easy on you, or else you'll just get all confused and end up sounding like Shaggy.

I mean, you're talking like what you said makes any sense at all. I mean... "methinks"?

Exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly exactly. How many times can I say "exactly"? Probably until I'm blue in the face, but am not going to find out.

Whilst i'm generally in favor of decriminalising drugs and like the general line that the netherlands are taking this is completely unacceptable.

Police doing drugs on their own time is one thing but being wasted on duty is just plain dangerous. Just like I wouldn't want to see a drunk officer in the uk or us.

Unfortunately this will almost certainly be spun to suit the anti-drug movement...

Grow your own dope, plant a pom!

No, hence the obvious tag.

True, Grahams. It annoys me that so many people think that anyone in favor of drug legalization is in favor of legalizing it always and everywhere, during work, for children, etc. Give me a break. Alcohol is legal yet you're not allowed to be drunk on the job.....who says that can't apply for other drugs?

2003-06-10 11:04:14 AM
I heard that the legal age limit is 15 there. Can you imagine legalised prostitution with 15 year olds? No wonder all those fat, middle aged, ugly, 50 year old, ogres travel great distances to go there.

2003-06-10 11:06:00 AM
Rillion, you talk sense. If i want a ciggy during work, I gotta go to the smoking room, or outside. If i want a beer during work..well..I get fired, I have to wait til after and go to a pub on my own time. i don't smoke blow hardly ever anyway, and I agree that the saddos going to Amsterdam only to get stoned is, well, sad.

Didn't know there was a BIG crime problem in Ams..and I thougt it/Nederland had the lowest incidence of hard drug addiction per capita. could be wrong on that, though

methinks - intr.v. Archaic - It seems to me.

"In all ages poets have been had in special reputation, and, methinks, not without great cause." --Spenser.

What exactly is wrong with this word again?

And no, I'm not stoned. I'm at work. As has been pointed out already, most of us know at what times drugs are appropriate. Those who don't are going to cause problems whether or not drugs are illegal.

I heard that the legal age limit is 15 there.

If you mean "age of consent", it's 12 for the Netherlands:

I'd glady pay the money for a ticket to Amsterdam just to get stoned. However, the reason I would go all the way there is so I don't have to worry about walking down the street and getting messed with because I'm doing something that's *gasp* so horribly bad.

The absence of authority regarding my actions in this case is more than enough reason for me to go to Amsterdam, though get high isn't all I would do there.

Plus the bud's probably a lot better than it is here.

This hardcore even takes drug holiday breaks

Which begs the question, where do Amsterdammers go for a drugs holiday?

Having been to Amsterdam recently, I can see how the permissiveness has gotten out of hand. I arrived in the morning on a bus from London, and the first thing I saw in Amstelstation was a naked man roller blading. At 5:30am.

Once downtown, a mate and I were sitting along one of the canals and noticed two men under a bridge, one giving the other a headie. This was at 6:30.

I was there for 4 days. The museums/architecture were wonderful, and of course the "cafe scene" was amusing. But I didn't enjoy watching people shoot up in the open, nor did I enjoy being followed by male prostitutes.

Spot on Rillion, drugs should be treated like alcohol and companies should have strict policies about being under the influence when you are at work.

Of course it does depend a little on your job. I find i code quite well after a couple of beers, since i am less easily distracted by various unnamed websites when i'm a little drunk.

When your job is to protect the safety of others then there should be no excuses. I think that, in the uk at least, those are the only jobs where drug testing is mandatory. I think the US is a little sad and maybe even discriminatory by precluding the occasional smoker a job at Home Depot.

Just taking a look here shows that the netherlands has significantly lower rates of cannabis use than the UK. Decriminisation just means there will be less criminals, not more use.

Whilst i'm generally in favor of decriminalising drugs and like the general line that the netherlands are taking this is completely unacceptable.

Police officers doing drugs - isolated incident, could happen anywhere mind you, nothing to do with drug policy.

If you mean "age of consent", it's 12 for the Netherlands

Yes/no, you can't have sex with a 12-16 year old when you're older than 16 yourself (though the whole law is really only used against rapists and pedo's anyway).

And for anyone who feels like attacking us for our age of consent laws, remember that same-sex intercourse is still deemed illegal in some US States. Talk about backwarded situations! Even 3rd world countries have their age of consent laws in a better shape then some US states.

Grahams, you sound like an amazing intelligent fellow. And that's not just because you agree with me.;-) Going to the festival Edinburgh in August?

I'll be around for some of it rillion, have you been here?

Sounds like i'm doing roughly the opposite of you... born in manchester, lived in scotland, moving to the usa.

I was in stranded in dallas a few months back when denver international got 5ft of snow. This may not sound like much of a compliment but believe me when i say "it wasn't as bad as i'd expected" :)

I thought only the tourists used drugs in Amsterdam. It's no wonder you can't get a cop here when your flat has been ransacked or you've been mugged by a junkie.
