Well I just got my degree
In Criminal Justice, you see
But cops like this dope
Have made me lose hope
Cause they think they're bourgeoisie

No, probably not. It'd probably be better to sue them.

Subby seems to be trolling with the "had a glitch in it" comment (couldn't find any mention of it), but this case does seem to have some particularities to it...

July 10: shooting takes place
July 27: Coroner's inquest into Costco shooting indefinitely postponed

The reason given for the indefinite postponement - the Clark County District Attorney didn't want the inquest to happen right before the three day Labor Day holiday weekend. WTF?

My guess is Sheriff Doug Gillespie wants this whole issue postponed until after November so his bid for re-election isn't damaged.

The family's attorney is saying Scott was shot five times in the back while lying on the ground. Even without any video, the Coroner's inquest should provide some interesting results.

Damn, don't you just hate those tapes with a glitch in it?

Call me crazy, but maybe glitch = incriminating evidence?

I was thinking lawsuit/media frenzy first, followed by vigilante justice as a Plan B.

/I guess the banner kind of works in the direction of media frenzy

I thought the same thing, but it's in a different article about this shooting.

According to Metro, the tapes had a glitch and sent the hard drives to be analyzed.

No, you file a discovery request under Brady v.Maryland and ask for the judge to have an in-camera inspection of the evidence to determine if it is in a glitched state. If it is not, it gets turned over and admitted. If it is legitimately destroyed through no fault of the People of California, no problem. If it was actually destroyed, then the People should be penalized for spoliation of evidence.

Get a better attorney, ma'am.

No.
As irresponsible and ill advised as being a vigilante or crashing the plane Joseph Stack style into an LAPD station would be, it would still be more effective to obtain justice or even a tiny fear of backlash if further incidents happen than this.
Really, he should try suing. But the that's already a null solution, since courts are always stacked in the cops favor.

So I read four different articles about this case and didn't find anything about "glitches", just the usual crap where police won't release a tape for no good reason whatsoever.

Anyone got a link that is a little more specific?

Parents can't accept the fact that their perfect son wasn't so perfect after all. I bet even if there was a video tape of the incident showing the kid pointing a gun at the cops, the parents would say the cops tampered with it.

Ugh. Look, I'm no cop basher at all. But this thing stinks, and it has the markings of "cops farked up" all over it. I usually side with police, but for those of us in Las Vegas who know more about this story than most, it's not that cut and dried.

I don't know the Scott family personally, but they are good family friends of my good friend's husband, and I think they just want to know the truth about what really happened to their son. They want to see the tape, whatever it may show.

I'll grant you that. For me, I prefer the videos admitted to be high quality, not tampered with and are in at least three angles (side, front and back.)

Unfortunately, this requires Big Brother type of surveillance and this is not likely to happen.

Out of curiosity, I heard that the police get an investigation every time a gun is fired - Is that true?

What the hell does glitch mean? A few seconds missing? VHS-RIP quality? Seems like those sorts of things shouldn't completely derail things. I wouldn't consider a broken or corrupt file a "glitch"

Glitch or no glitch one would kind of expect Metro to be falling all over themselves to prove it wasn't unjustified, right?

Right??

Ahhhh... thanks for the link,Oh_Enough_Already!

Here's a posting on a message board on July 12 (just two days after the shooting:

Doe anyone care to make a bet that the video will be lost or damaged since the video is in Metro's hands? Or will they claim that that particular camera was temporarily out of service?

The important thing is to not ask too many questions when the State executes citizens in broad daylight, then hides the evidence. It's more important (and helpful) to question the State when it raises taxes 3% on the wealthiest citizens.

I wouldn't be surprised to see uneducated knee-jerkers claiming militia refers to military. (See a dictionary, especially circa 1770's)

When a person is brandishing a weapon and poses immediate threat.

Demanding people to be shot in the front is tough guy reasoning.

The linked article doesn't mention anything about a glitch, but this article indicates that there is Costco surveillance video, and that the police are withholding it:

In a statement, the Scott family attorney, Ross Goodman, said, "Metro will not release the recording of the 911 calls and Costco surveillance video until the inquest which has been indefinitely postponed...".

One positive side, if this were Egypt both the father and the pilot of the plane would have died of natural causes after being brought in for questioning by the police. So be glad it's not Egypt.

After a few articles I googled up, I noticed that any time witnesses were mentioned in any of them, it was because their story didn't jive with the police version. And then, naturally, the video evidence suffered from a 'glitch'...

Sometimes cops make mistakes. Sometimes their buddies cover for them when it happens.

I think someone should fund a scientific study into the reasons why a police officer discharging a firearm at a civilian causes nearby video recording equipment to fail so often.

Considering the primary purpose of the police is to protect the top 3% from retaliation for their abuses of the 97% that's spot on.

Useless hypothetical is useless. If the guy is guilty, show the tape and the fiasco would be over with.
The cops and the legal system bring every accusation on themselves in this scenario by not releasing the tape.
They wouldn't be holding it if they had nothing to hide.

Oh_Enough_Already: I thought the same thing, but it's in a different article about this shooting.

According to Metro, the tapes had a glitch and sent the hard drives to be analyzed.

Results of the drive analysis were released Thursday. "It was discovered that the media had been passed multiple times through a strong magnetic field then suffered multiple hard impacts shattering the platters," a Metro spokesperson announced. "This is the last time we will be shipping evidence using UPS!"
