There is no way that that is longer than the metro escalators in Moscow. Not by a long shot.

Impressive! The escalator looked extremely long, but I swear it appeared shorter than the Metro stop in Bethesda, Maryland that I went down every day. People looked like ants at the bottom!

Apparently it is. It's west of the Ural Mountains which are the generally accepted dividing line between European and Asian Russia.

/I had to look that up too.

How the hell do you slow down?

Is it fun to fall at uncontrolled speeds into moving escalator teeth?

You shouldn't have dropped that tab of acid at the top.

Not a year goes by that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent... I don't care which one... but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator!

It's true. That guy did ski down an escalator.

My friends dad got his big toe nommed by an escalator.

The way the dad tells it, he was very young, 6-ish or so, riding an escalator barefoot. There was a hole in one of the steps, and he innocently stuck his toe in, just fooling around like a kid. When they reached the top...shear.

He said he doesn't remember the pain as much as the total pandemonium of all the adults around him.

/He still has his nine other toes, so I guess he learned his lesson.

The Russians will kick your ass for anything.

There isn't much else to do over there but drink and fight.

I think you're confusing Russia with Scotland...
Russians have plenty to do right now, like avoid catching on fire.

And for people with a BAC averaging about 150 proof, that is a problem.

Airfoilsguy: I didn't know Moscow was in Europe.

Well, now you know. :-)

You have to see the Moscow metro stations to believe them. They have incredibly LONG escalators and they are decked out like a musuem.

I'd hate to be there on the day the escalator didn't work.
