Subby should have found a way to fit the midget part into the headline.

Nobody on the internet would ever DARE to be sarcastic.

jehovahs witness protection: Subby should have found a way to fit the midget part into the headline.

Why? The midget was just a small part of the story.

You'll get over it.

I wonder if the Orchard Park council is run by the same people who run the Buffalo News' comments section, as this whole "we don't need the blah blah blah" stuff is the same thing *they've* been saying publicly, and why the Buffalo News' new comments section is so goofball...

Oh teh nose, people on the internets and in real life are not always nice! Oh nose!

The money for the stipend was transferred from a contingency sewer account and was justified by the town accountant because "the supervisor spends a significant amount of time and driving supporting the town sewer and water operations," according to Stadelmaier.

But of course. Nobody else will fit into the pipes.

This just in: puttering old people with nothing better to do with their time complain about nothing at public meetings.

They also spend inordinate amounts of time writing angry letters to local paper on topics they don't understand and yelling at clouds.

Yea it always sucks when the town council has to hear what the little people have to say. Can't these town folk just do what the King and Queens command them to and not question it!?!

I think the "self-esteem" movement is to blame. It has produced a generation of disrespectful little snots who are so full of themselves -- so full of undeserved self-esteem -- that they are unable to behave in respectful manner.

2010-08-06 01:34:03 PM
If the Council would refrain from placing on the agenda such items as Lolcats, maybe the trolling would subside.

A little email I ran across in my outbox to the town board and all of its supervisors.

"Dear Town Board,

I just wanted to let you know I am just as outraged as you guys at the people of the town expressing their disrespect towards the way the town is run by its board members. How dare someone come into your meeting and chastise you when you are doing your best? To criticize proposed budgets and expenditures does nothing for the town but get in the way of real business and those trying to conduct it like YOU. These people should mind their own. I think the next time someone comes in there with a hint of sarcasm, snottiness, you should have the town's police arrest them, lock them up until they learn to shut mouths. This way, your business can be conducted without the interference of ignorant, sardonic, disrespectful nobodies. You guys can make whatever decisions you need to make without worrying about some sarcastic jerk causing a fuss and making a scene. You have my full support with whatever you do.

Poe Zlaw"

Feel free to express your outrage as well. remember-- no sarcasm will be tolerated.

One would have thought that if the "journalist" who wrote this piece were going to quote a line about sarcasm and the destruction of good will, he or she would attempt to find examples. The questions and observations that were referenced seem reasonable, considering the circumstances. Maybe the no-brainer comment was over the top, but even that seemed pretty tame.

Look, this is simple. In any situation in which a small board makes decisions on behalf of a larger body, especially when those decisions have to do with pooled finances or other resources, you are going to see a small number of wonks who are bound and determined to get a twist in their nickers over even the perception of any minuscule impropriety. If you didn't know that, you probably aren't experienced enough to do a good job as a board member. If you did, well, how stupid are you to think that their behavior would change just because a few faces behind the board table changed?

Easiest way to dispense with the constant nitpicking over stuff like this? Make it excruciatingly public. Don't "hide" new expenditures in a catch-all agenda item shoved way at the end of the meeting. If you're going to spend the townspeople's money, tell them! Tell them loud, tell them long, and tell them often. They'll still probably find something to complain about, but at least you will have satisfaction of knowing that you did everything you could reasonably have done.

2010-08-06 01:42:37 PM
Well he's right. Sarcasm is a poor method of communication.

"have a new hobby of talking disrespectfully."

Hey. We are now in the time of Hope and Change. Disrespectful talking is the change part as demostrated by Obama when he talks about people clinging to guns and Bibles. It isn't that much of a stretch when "the common people" want to also talk in those tones.

Hey, congress built a multimillion dollar visitor center so they wouldn't have to smell the tourists, so I guess they are just following their leaders.

Remember the constitution says citizens may redress grievances with the government in polite government approved written statements.

/Anyone who wants to be elected to office shouldn't be.
