Ya, it sure is being an asshole to honor your contract.. If you want flood insurance BUY flood insurance.
That said, good on All State. They helped some people who really needed it and they got some good PR at the same time.

They're just capitzlizing on the other companies and the unreasonable outrage of the citizens to get bonus points and publicity.

Insurance is for DAMAGE. Flood damage is, in absolutely no universe, wildfire damage. It does not matter if the floor was caused by a wildfire- you do not have flood insurance. You were not damaged by a wildfire. You were damaged by a flood. You do not have insurance for that, suck it up and deal with it.

Allstate is probably correct though, the flooding was the direct result of the fire. Its a far more reasonable understanding of their contract in my opinion.

So, I have fire coverage. A fire breaks out in the kitchev and fire department comes and hoses everything down. Insurance covers the kitchen appliances, cabinets, etc, but won't cover the water damage to the living room carpet, cause that damage wasn't caused by the fire??

"We insure the cause, not the effect."

I want to see the insurance companies man up and make a home insurance policy that covers everything. In fact the government should force them to make it happen.

FIRE

THEY INSURE THE DAMAGE. From the FIRE. The effect of a fire is FIRE DAMAGE. The effect of a farking hose is WATER DAMAGE.

The Coconino County Board of Supervisors is looking at whether to approach the state body that regulates insurers to ask or require that more insurers follow Allstate's decision.

No problem. Now that we know we're operating in a region where government changes the rules retroactively, we'll adjust our premiums accordingly. Enjoy your 25% rate hike.

My agent had to drive 3 hrs to get the state dept a copy of my certificate of insurance, which the state lost ( they had the copy of the bond which was sent attached ) and subsequently isssued a notice thay had canceled my license to operate.

Sweet! i thought. This is farking great. I get to pay money
I don't have to be bonded despite never having a dissatisfied customer nor any complaints, or liabilities, and when I do cough the money and play by all the rules, the state still farks it up for me.

Good hands took care of me.

The state of Oregon? They are governed by ineptitude

Some jackass plows into my Jeep about a year ago.
Of course, he has no insurance.
Totals his car.
$1,600 damage to mine.
I pay my $1,000 deductible.
He refuses to pay up.
Insurance company chooses to no longer pursue claim.
I'm out $1,000.
Thanks for nothing, Alfa.

Cervidanti: THEY INSURE THE DAMAGE. From the FIRE. The effect of a fire is FIRE DAMAGE. The effect of a farking hose is WATER DAMAGE.

The typically anticipated result of having a fire in your house is to have it put out by water. If putting fire out with water were somehow unexpected I could see an insurance company saying "well we don't cover that," but since every sane person in this world expects fires to be put out with water, an insurance company that refuses to cover water damage that is an expected outcome of having a fire is unscrupulous.

2010-08-01 01:49:58 PM
Thisbymaster I want to see the insurance companies man up and make a home insurance policy that covers everything. In fact the government should force them to make it happen

That sort of policy would be more expensive, and I agree that the option for the consumers who can afford it would be great.

However, the government forcing that sort of policy on the insurers would just drive premiums up and make insurance even more expensive for everyone--including those who don't live on flood plains or areas reasonably likely to be flooded and don't need it.

Crazy lady rams my car. She was arrested for reckless driving only because I chose not to press aggravated assault charges. I submit the claim ($3K worth of damage to my Benz) and her insurance company DENIES the claim stating "they do not have enough information to determine their client at fault." The police report and the pc statement all establish her clearly at fault...

Her insurance companies response? "The cop wasn't there so they cannot use his word to determine liability."

/she is with Allstate
//my attorney is going to have fun with this one
///first estimate was a local body shop. Second estimate is tomorrow at the dealership.

You seem to have trouble with syllogisms.

If fire causes flooding
If flooding causes damage
Then fire causes damage.

Good job, Allstate, for owning up and showing some ethics in a world largely without.

It's like all the insurance companies are trying to have the most obnoxious spokesperson.

The guy you mentioned, the chick in the Progressive ads, the Gecko, the one with Charlie Daniels et al. I can't watch any of them.

Wait until you get your insurance bill. I don't have Alfa, but one thing I know about insurance companies is if they have to pay, you will pay.

I'd also say switch insurance companies. But since this is now on your insurance record, prepare to get assraped by any insurance company for the next 5 years.

We had a small fire at my house about 20 years ago. There was smoke and water damage to a number of rooms. The insurance company did not differentiate between the two. I don't know what insurance company you work for, but I'm glad we didn't have them for coverage at the time.

I hate them too. Specifically, pandering to a certain portion of america whenever in nearly every one you hear ......."La Familia". Just bugs me. If it was one commercial, no problem. in 2,3,4 or however many there are, its retarded. He looks hispanic, says some spanish words, and if you watch the backgrounds in some of the commercials, you see males, females, black females, hispanic females, asian male, its like they made sure the whole demographic is in there. For once I want to see a commercial with nothing but whites, blacks, asians, whatever. Show me one with eskimos and no one else. I get, and love, the idea of multiculturalism. I just dont like how everything in advertising has to show the whole gamut. All the time. Without exception.
