I'm guessing she received the "telespoofing" prank phone call and got mad over nothing, so she made up the most believable story she could think of for the police and the media. And she lives in New York too, so that's like... why would the Ku Klux Klan be interested in anyone in New York? That wasn't even their territory.

In 2006 there was a huge uproar because the KKK kept slipping their material into on of our local paper while it was on the racks. It's not big here or even vocal but it's still around.
